For months, McCain asked for it. On its website, the GOP set up a counter to track how long it had been since the last time it happened. McCain's supporters called for Barack Obama to halt all criticism of the War in Iraq until it took place. But now that Obama has begun his overseas tour, McCain is scrambling.

Obama is banking on world opinion to influence the undecided US voter in his favor...as he should.
Nothing scares the GOP more than that. -
Yep. Just goes to show you want an empty shell his campaign really is. But what would you expect from a party that has clearly run out of ideas?

john mccain is a pouty old man.
...sorry, that was a tad harsh. but in all truthfulness, mccain does seem to be suffering from obama envy and he can't stand it. he's going to have to reach into his bag of tricks and pull out something major if he plans on putting up a decent fight for the white house.-

McW can't even pronounce words correctly, let alone handle delicate international diplomacy. He is of the 'shoot first, don't worry about asking questions' mentality. I hate the man.

I don't think that he is scrambling whatsoever. He has done a brilliant job of keeping the press off balance with the prospect of naming a VP candidate this week. He has also been able to point out that Obama stood against the highly successful surge and that things are working out in Iraq. McCain called for the surge and the ouster of Rumsfeld long before either happened and he has been right on the issue. If McCain had managed this war from the beginning, it would long be history. If Obama had his way and the surge never happened and the troops were pulled, Iraq would be in total disarray. I can't believe this country would put that kind of inexperience in the Oval Office.

If we're playing the "what if" game you have to take it back one step. If Obama were in charge we wouldn't have made the terrible mistake of invading Iraq in the first place. We could have stayed focused on Afghanistan and maybe we'd be done with that war by now.
Of course we never would have found those WMDs...oh wait.
Of course all these what ifs are kind of pointless. Much better to look at what has actually happened. Try asking yourself this. If Obama is so inexperienced, why are Bush and McCain falling all over themselves to follow his foreign policy lead?
-Obama says we should have face to face negotiations with Iran (without preconditions). McCain and Bush call it appeasement. They go on and on about it. But then guess what...we send one of our top diplomats to meet with Iran (without preconditions).
-Obama says for months that we need more troops in Afghanistan. McCain says it's not true and that things are fine there. But then just last week he flips and calls for more troops (though flips back and forth for a day on whether they should be US or NATO).
-Obama says that we need to set a time table for withdraw from Iraq (sixteen months). McCain says we could be there for 100 years and references permanent bases in Korea and Germany. But suddenly last week the Bush administration starts talking about a "time horizon" (which means time table). The elected government of Iraq agrees with Obama's plan. And McCain flops again and claims he's never considered permanent bases. He also flips from a previous position that we should leave when the Iraqi government asks us to leave.
Seems like Obama's calling the shots and he hasn't even been elected (yet). -
McCain is only digging himself a deeper hole when he tries to put Obama on the spot. He and the Republicans should have expected Obama to accept that challenge. Now look what happened!

@ whysoserious- Wrong. This "war" isn't winnable, that's the way it was designed.
McCain will do the same thing Bush is doing, perpetuate the war in the name of huge profits for his friends Blackwater/KBR/etc etc (they have the same friends...) -
let him scramble all he wants , I am sure Obama is loving every second of it :)
-
Obama is proving himself to be a shrewd politician. We can only hope that he will saunter back over the to the Left after his foray into the Right.
-
A very big part of the scrambling is due to the fact that the GOP can't seem to pin any terribly tragic dirt on Obama, he's too clean and he hasn't got the same affluent rabble crowd to answer to as do Bush and McSame...
Finally, it seems that the truth is slowly seeping out of the 'same old' bag of tricks that have been employed by this administration and the GOP for many years now...the Obama inexperience card they've been shoving down our throats is getting to be a really worn out talking point, that the blind sheep are still all too eager to bleet about...I wonder what will be the next ploy...
If the GOP robs us of yet another election (get ready they already have a plan to do so) I wonder if Cheney will still be calling the shots...
Perhaps we'll see integrity in our government again, once Obama is elected...-

This sounds like a bunch of hype. If it really was over, people would keep hush about it, but because it is not, you have the hype effect. To find out more about the Hype: The Obama Effect, visit the link above.

Before the "surge" the warlord of Anbar turned against the Al Queda who were based in their province and subsequently the level of violence in Iraq started dropping before the additional troops arrived. What is it we are supposed to be winning? I thought the goal was to get rid of Saddam. Oh yes, and to get the weapons of mass destruction.
