The comedian Franklyn Ajai used to do a routine where he said he and a friend were harassed and arrested by the police for being outside and black on a sunny day. At the trial he told his friend to be cool and go with it because what else could they do, after all they were guilty. "Your honor, I tried to tell my friend the sun was coming out..."
Now if you chuckled you're either a minority or very astute. If you're bewildered, indifferent or indignant you not only don't get it you're most likely part of the problem.

I hope the Bush administration isn't monitoring this post but I have to admit I too am guilty of being outside and exceptionally black on a sunny day.

Also, has anyone here been keeping up with Soledad O'Brien's "Being Black in America" series on CNN? Everytime I get ready to sit down and tune into it, something comes up. Is it any good? -

Am I proud of my Italian heritage? Sure!
Am I proud of the bit of Irish in me? Sure!
All ethnicities have contributed to this country and to the world. It's OK to be proud of that, but if you are more proud of your ethnicity or cultural heritage - than the country you live in and prosper from - or if you are fighting for your race or ethnicity to received benefits that others will be denied in this country, then you my friend are indeed a racist. You believe your race is more important than your country. -
Some pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
They Call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman,'
.....And that's OK. -
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

They have Martin Luther King Day.
They have Asian History Month.
They have Black History Month.
They have Cesar Chavez Day.
They have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.
They have Yom Hashoah.

If we had WET (White Entertainment Television)

If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives,

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
a Black Chamber of Commerce,
and then we just have the plain

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships
.....You know we'd be racists.
There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US, yet if there were 'White-only Colleges'
.....THAT would be a racist college.
In the Million-Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?...truth is not all feel like you do.. I have friends who are blck who also feel thier race causes thier own probs with this by thier constant whining etc etc.. and listening to people like rev wright etc..jessie jackson ooop who by the way insulted his own race.. rev.sharpton list goes on and on..so take responsibility for your own problems.. the double standard buck stops here.. or it will never end.. -

If you have even the creativity of a child to open up a box of crayons, I think you'll find they still make even white crayons--not separated, or bitching to be separated, but right alongside ALL the other colors.
My advice: Don't polarize, unless your also willing in the same "veracity" to petition the crayola company on behalf of your prejudices and slights from the obviously ignorant.
Even in white light, all colors are present and accounted for.
We are ALL OF US just colored people... -
Great post eldamon! I am continually embarassed by the way some white people treat people of color (unicorn77 is a great example). I know that if I were treated like that I would be furious. It just makes no sense.

deadbolt ,<<<respect is earned not demanded we owe you nothing... as for echoz yeah the songs you relate to does say it all>> racist..and deaming your own women......using the N word... yes there are white groups too who do some to a degree but they arent the ones whining YOU are...it will ever change you know it.. as for deadbolt again... your comment made no sense because all I posted was the truth...I aso dont belive in anyone no matter what color to be targeted via police etc BUT.. when your wrong and commit a crime why should yu be treated any different that wont fly no matter where you are... I have family who works in Law and when you see how the blacks spit in officers face... cal them thier favroite word MFKER they deserve every thing they get..how they rape our white women and then cry racism... Its disgusting....they even atack thier own in black on black crime...but fortunatley even the blacks have had enough of it and are taking actions into thier own hands good for them to protect thier children..families..good for them...the mayor of cleve is black and he is fed up.....

do a search for thomas sowell, he is a journalist and just wrote a piece on this in connection with the Duke "rape" case.
Apparently, a lot of blacks want a prosecution just to remedy past racism, even if the guys did not do anything criminal.
I dont understand why blacks always rally around the worst people and then celebrate their victories, like in the OJ case or with Rodney King, or the black kids in school that get expelled for fighting.
Why not support the kids that are doing good in school and staying out of trouble.

Gotta love that little two-year-old mentality of "he started it!". So what? If you really think you're all that much better of a person, it's your responsibility to rise above such things. Just because someone else starts something deosn't mean you're obligated to make it worse.
Racism against any race is wrong, whether it's a form of retalliation or not I mean come on people, grow up. This is the 21st century. Look all around you, if you pay attention you'll see that "minorities" aren't that at all anymore. They get special privelages just because of their race,which is really ironic since one of the main complaints that I have heard about white people is that they have this and that advantage. You can't get revenge and then still act like a victim, because at that point you're not.
2 years ago so dont say your being attacked ..unless YOU know you didnt contribute to it then we WILL respons accordingly..
