  • texting while someone is talking to you is just as rude as answering a phone call in the middle of a conversation. Its pretty fucking disrespectful. And no texting is not like email. You don't expect to get an email one after another on your phone harassing you. People literally end relationships because of this shit. Its a good way to get out of not completely explaining yourself and it leaves the recipient clueless as to wtf you're talking about.

  • This guy is serious, right? Its not a very angry rant...but I see some good in texting. There are times when I feel like it would be really awkward to call someone to find something out or tell them something because it is rather short or not that significant. Then, texting is really handy. I just hate when people use it as a way to catch up or have a conversation.

  • what ever Ben was trying to pull off here didn't really fly. There are a number of interesting and funny ways that txt msgs are stupid and ridiculous. You picked a few easy jokes and executed them poorly.

  • I liked the video a lot but there are a few things I have to say in defense. I have found myself texting more and more. Sometimes you just don't feel like talking. I feel that texting is a less intrusive way of communicating. If I know someone is in a movie or eating dinner I will send them a text and they can look at my message at their convenience. Another way of looking at it is by cost. A lot of providers offer unlimited or 1500 text messages for $15 bucks/month. It's a lot cheaper than going over you peak minutes every month or having to upgrade your talking plan. In the end it just comes down to personal preference. I think Ben would enjoy texting more if he had a phone with a full keyboard. :P

  • Interesting video but I would have to disagree. To say that we had to make up a new language isn't exactly correct, I think we did it out of convenience, I think we could get along just fine even if we hadn't of created a texting language.

I also think that some of that language already existed from the birth of instant messaging. I also think that with recent talks of cell phones being linked to brain tumors I would say that texting sounds a lot more appealing.

I have to agree with isoceles that I feel it is less intrusive in situations where i know someone might be busy but i have a quick question or comment to send their way. I also still think that the economic value is important that i can spend 20 dollars a month to have unlimited texting ability and then save myself whatever costs in minutes.

You also mentioned how people can now break up over texts because it is easier to say things that we wouldn't normally say but i like this feature. It has allowed me to confess my feelings towards someone and not feel totally humiliated and has also made rejection a little easier. I'd rather see "I think we should just be friends" in a text than hear the awkward pause on the other end followed with the "I think we should just be friends" all spoken in a tone that suggests "wow you're fucking weird".

But interesting pod I must say.

  • i totally agree
    i hate text messages
    i'd rather talk to someone
than read a short message from them
    unless it is an email
    not only that
    text messages just like emails
    can be read by anyone
and they do not show any emotion

  • Text messages are great because there is no point in having to start a phone conversation when all you wanted was a simple answer to a quick question.

  • text messaging is the bane of humanity sending kids down a dark path of a hollow existense. it take 4 times longer to text a short question to someone than to talk. Just another way people are trying to insulate themselves from human contact and the hurt of rejection
