The United Nations' 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child was the first legally binding international law to incorporate the full range of human rights for children. It is said to have significantly increased the profile of children's rights worldwide.

Sadly, the United States is one of only two countries in the world which have refused to ratify The United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This article includes a number of very touching photographs, a memorable documentary video about children's rights and an emotionally moving photo-gallery.

  • Why wouldn't the US want children to have right?!

  • The U.S. has dismissed the CRC with the reasoning that the we already have in place everything the treaty espouses, and that it would make no practical difference. President George W. Bush stated in 2001:

"The Convention on the Rights of the Child may be a positive tool for promoting child welfare for those countries that have adopted it. But we believe the text goes too far when it asserts entitlements based on economic, social and cultural rights."

  • I should have known it had something to do with George W. Apparently he doesn't think children deserve rights just like all other human beings in the world.

  • The Machiavelli mafia believes that some kids have more rights then others.
