Iraq banned from Summer Olympics

This is so sad for the Iraqi athletes.
This may be a small hinderance in the development of this country.

This is bullshit. Iraq had their country bombed in 1991, then had sanctions imposed under Bill Clinton/Madeleine Albright that killed over 500,000, then Clinton bombed them again in 1998, now under Bush, more than 1 million Iraqis are dead with no power and water or basic infrastructure most of the time and now being banned from the Olympics which are being hosted in an open police state. This is absurd.

Don't punish people for their government's doing. They have every right to be there because they, just like their counterparts, have practice hard for four years to get there.

So, what you guys are saying is, the IOC should not be allowed to establish rules on what countries need to do to be able to send athletes to the Olympics and then actually uphold those rules? Just based on whether that country has had a rough couple decades?

Of course the IOC should have strict guidelines for participant countries, but surely the hosts themselves should undergo even more intense scrutiny. And if they will over look blatant human rights issues in China then this shouldn't bother them. Would they allow the Iraqi team to participate if Saddam was still the leader?

WTF? Arent the Olympics supposed to be a time where every country puts aside its differences and unites? lol, at least that's what i learned in school. If Hitler and the Nazis were allowed to compete in the Olympics why can't the Iraqis have a second chance? lol, i just think it's a little harsh. They broke the rules, but feel sorry for the Country, and their athletes especially.
