- REAL ID Act (8)
The REAL ID Act is a bad law passed under false pretences. It was rejected three separate times by the US Senate, and was only passed because it was added to a larger bill containing disaster relief and funding for Iraq. The Senate didn't want it, and the American people don't want it either. But the Republican majority leadership in Congress imposed it on us, and so now we have to fight to get it repealed.
The REAL ID Act creates a centralized federal database of personal information about all Americans. Decisions about the exact nature and scope of this program will be made by unelected bureaucrats in the Executive Branch. It seems inevitable that biometric information and electronic tracking tags will be included at some point. No one intends a bad use for this system today, but it is inevitable that it will be used in bad ways in the future.
We are promised increased personal security in return for laying this new "foundation stone" for the creation of a future police state. But those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither, and will have neither.

The security they offer does not look, taste, smell or feel like the security I am looking for. I feel like it's a big lie.
But that's just my point of view. -
Sigh. More nauseating news about the American Govt. slithering its way into fascism.
-
This is way over the top. How did they sell this as a security measure? Haven't they ever heard of hacking? Thanks for the links onechance.

We're watching our rights we have fought So hard to protect fly out the window! I'm appalled at the direction our country is heading... A society controlled by fear. I guess the government realized using religion wasn't cutting it anymore.
-
"Those that would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither." -- attributed to Benjamin Franklin
Only enslavement can be the end-game for these kinds of programs.... so who are the slavers? -
I will refuse it all, and go to jail for it if I have to. I WILL FIGHT!!
-
It's sad that in our country (USA) we fear our own government more than any foreign government.

It not just the GOP, the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) also has interests and lobbies with our Democrat Party. Our first crisis was a security crisis (thanks to 9/11) and the Security and Prosperity Partnership was born (spp.gov).On the horizon: Economic Crisis. The more money the Fed continues to print out to prevent a recession and help our ailing housing market, the lower and lower will continue to fall. Eventually, it will hit rock bottom and the population will demand a regional economic unit comprising of various countries and a single economic, political, and social system. Immigration has not been addressed, nor will it need to be, China will bypass unionized American port cities for cheaper ones in Lazaro-Cardenas, Mexico/Panama canal, that will be delivered to the inland port of KC, MO. Now's the time to turn your cash over to precious metals or invest overseas.

The site is not friendly to my browser of choice (Safari), but I felt that the inconvenience of using Opera was very much worth it. The 'Downsize DC' site has great potential as a voice for us 'little people'

this is a bunch of bull. they have no right to do this and should be stopped.. but thats our goverment for ya .. doing just as they please.. I'll do my part in fighting this

If you're not a fugitive, terrorist, or in the United States illegally, I honestly do not see what is wrong with this card. Many state driver's licenses already partially comply with the Real ID Act. The United States is behind other democracies in Europe and Asia which have similar national ID systems. The Act doesn't change when and how people show ID. It just helps ensure that when they do, they are accurately identified. It's about time if you ask me.
-
21 states are already against this act.It will cost an estimated 11 bilion dollars to implement..And it won't be fool proof..Anything can be forged...
"According to the results, implementing the Real ID Act will be not only a tremendous cost, but also a logistics problem. There are 245 million drivers in America, and each one must physically re-enroll at a state DMV to verify their identity with the appropriate documents, all by May 2008" ( now extended to may 09 http://www.govtech.com/gt/101128
Data is lost all the time by the govt..Do they need more to lose? The watch lists used by the TSA are stil a mess for many people. They haven't even managed to take care of those matters.
You have to prove your identity to get any form of ID now. I already have a passport..& That is good enough for me and should be for the govt. too.. -
Repeal!!

Back in the 50's, and 60's (and maybe 70's) our social security cards had a disclaimer on the bottom of every card that read:
NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES
It no longer has this...
We've been being fooled for quite awhile...Our SS# IS our identification that tells everything about us.
Not to be used for Identification, eh?-

Well, it looks like with the invention of the internet and everything electronic, it's set up perfectly for "Big Brother". The NSA will store all this information on everybody for further use on us if needed. This little card won't be anything when they start messing with our bodies. They'll put tiny nano "identifiers" on us. We'll be like cattle!
-
Lets fight this hey i will be wiling to build a vacuum tube radio where they can hack into what im listening to

When I was in grade school, teachers taught us that only in Russia or East Germany did people have to show their papers to uniformed officers to move about their country.
We were taught to be proud that in America, we were free people, who didn't have to walk around with I.D.'s and submit to random questioning by police.
Real I.D.'s are not intended to protect anyone from terrorists. They are to I.D., track and control every person by the State and the Corporate controlled private security contractors.
For a chilling experience, go visit The National Holocaust Museum in D.C., or the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. Be sure to read about the institution of I.D.'s, total executive power, private security forces, mercenary troops, and control of the people's movement in early Nazi Germany.
These policies were also enacted in Germany under the premise of "protecting" people and "homeland security".
When the people realized these tactics had destroyed their freedoms and right to movement, it was too late, the noose had tightened around them and the institutionalized power of the police state permeated every aspect of their existence.
Will Americans have to be totally enslaved before we stop the Neo-Con's control?
