Plus200,000 Turn Out for Obama's Berlin Speech200,000 Turn Out for Obama's Berlin SpeechThe Associated PressBefore the largest crowd of his campaign, Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on Thursday summoned Europeans and Americans together to "defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it." (July 24)(NATS OF CHANTING YES WE CAN)A massive crowd chanted Barack Obama's campaign slogan as he prepared to speak in Berlin, Germany. Police estimate 200-thousand people turned out to hear the Democratic Presidential candidate.(SOT: BARACK OBAMA) (13:29:35) PEOPLE OF THE WORLD LOOK AT BERLIN, WHERE A WALL CAME DOWN. A CONTINENT CAME TOGETHER AND HISTORY PROVED THAT THERE IS NO CHALLENGE TOO GREAT FOR A WORLD THAT STANDS AS ONE. 44The speech was heavy on emphasizing the relationship between the U-S and Europe. Obama also talked of the need for the world's most powerful nations to address threats together. (SOT: OBAMA) (13:38:02) THIS IS THE MOMENT WHEN WE MUST DEFEAT TERROR AND DRY UP THE WELL OF EXTREMISM THAT SUPPORTS. THIS THREAT IS REAL AND WE CANNOT SHRINK FROM OUR responsibility TO COMBAT IT. [Notes:photos of reagan and kennedy here]Obama's presence echoed speeches by former presidents--including Ronald Reagan's famous address in 1981 and John F. Kennedy's visit in 1963.(NATS MCCAIN IN OHIO)In this country, Obama's rival visited a German restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. John McCain says he'd rather campaign in the heartland of the U-S, talking about issues that are challenging Americans today.(SOT: MCCAIN) (14:13:53) I'D LOVE TO GIVE A SPEECH IN GERMANY TO A POLITICAL SPEECH OR A SPEECH OR A SPEECH THAT MAYBE THE GERMAN PEOPLE WOULD BE interested IN BUT I'D MUCH PREFER TO DO IT AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES RATHER THAN AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENCY. A German television reporter working in the U-S says the crowds were partly driven by the fact that this was Obama's only public event during his European tour and also interest in Obama as a person.(SOT: CHRISTIAN WILP/N-TV)(15:53:48) IN EUROPE EVERYBODY'S INFLUENCED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB IN THE WORLD AND THEREFORE EVERYBODY'S interested IN FOLLOWING THE PRIMARIES AND ELECTIONS AND OF COURSE ALSO THE CANDIDATES.(SOT: OBAMA)(13:48:35) WE ARE A PEOPLE OF IMPROBABLE HOPE WITH AN EYE TOWARD THE FUTURE WITH RESOLVE IN OUR HEART. LET US REMEMBER THIS HISTORY AND ANSWER OUR DESTINY AND REMAKE THE WORLD ONCE AGAIN. While the crowd turned out to hear from a potential American president, Obama insisted he was there, speaking as a citizen.

  • A good leader brings nations together. How others view America will determine how they behave towards this country. Obama is proving to be a great leader. McCain on the other hand just whine following and attacking Obama's every moves rather than focus on his own campaign.

  • Nobama was rejected by 96% of germany as there are 82,220,000 people in germany that didn't show up for free concerts, free beer, free bratwurst...only 4% of liberal germany show up for "just words'..."just speeches"...A real Leader has experience! Nobama doesn't!

    McCain 08
The next President of the World...That is qualified to be President!
