I love that "My Drive Thru" video. I just bought 4 new pairs of converse...I have no idea why. Total impulse.

The mad men did a pretty awesome job concerning the Converse commercial. A fun summer song, fun summer shoe for all the summer fests. Plus it's nice to see that Julian Casablancas is still alive.

And I think it's great that commercials are stepping up their game. With tivo people are more likely to skip over this stuff but when the advertisements are actually really neat to look at with great music, I think folks are most likely to stop and take a look. Who knows if it'll sell shoes, but it's nice to see the creativity.

i wish these artists would cease. i don't want to see their music in a freakin' commercial. ugh.

i agree with mornrail, it is such a welcome alt to all the yelling car commercials and furniture stores, you need to make it more enjoyable, a little more like a music video or a short.

About the Converse 100th annviersary one...
You have to wonder who's making a profit off of those Kurt Cobain shoes.

I like when commercials are fun. That's why I like Orbit Gum commercials and Sonic commercials. Even when I tape something I have to play those commercials. I can't fast forward through them.

    Converse did a great job.

My parents saw the commercial and even they were quite impressed, of course they had no idea what the ad was selling so perhaps the advertising side of the spot was a flop (in the over 50 demographic anyways).

Wait 'til the NRA starts using catchy tunes to promote weapons as fashion accessories.

Scottish folk singer Vashti Bunyan's Train Song is in the new Reebok spot. Me gusta how it's not just the happy jangly pop songs in commercials now. I know it's a marketing ploy, but it's nice to see some mainstream musical diversity. Instead of being catchy background music to showcase a product, the music is actually the thing that draws you to watch an ad for a product that is more subtly integrated into it. Very sly on the parts of those marketing executives!

Could Justin Timberlake's role in the McDonalds 'I'm lovin' it' campaign be the reason for the growing obesity epidemic in the states?

I'll have a 4 Big Macs with a side of celebrity appeal!

I don't like Santogold. She's like a wannabe. The first time I saw her I was like... not another one.

Once this brand was all about the alternative and since Nike bought out the company in 2003 you can see it has lost all substence.

And I have one word for these music artists:
    'Sell Out'

I find it funny that I can enjoy these commercials because the music is pleasing and sometimes, such as in the case of the Converse ad, also visually stimulating.
However, I don't feel an impulse to go out and buy that product or that brand. I just want to get my hands on the songs...

I really don't like Converse's new "Century" campaign. The same ad campaign that features "the totally fresh" video that consists of MORE paper cut outs (Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, Eagle vs. Shark for examples) and featuring the terrible, goat voiced Santogold, and the BAPES/Nigo theif who ruined Bathing apes, Pharrell, is also responsible for the totally moronic slap in the face to american independent music that is the new Kurt Cobain shoe series. It makes me wonder, because i'd think that if someone spent their ENTIRE GROUNDBREAKING CAREER speaking out against corporate interests and feeling cheated, it would be best not to tie their ideas and name to a shoe deal that they never would have agreed to. (Had they not been driven to suicide by the same pressures earlier in their life.)

I cant believe they put this crap on tv!? Its 33% up and 67% down! They put this crap up on tv and not the LaVena Johnson case??? That's bullshit, I wonder who chooses the stories for tv.

Here's another one: I can't remember what the ad was for, but I think it was Kraft natural mayo or something. They are playing a Flaming Lips song, "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song"

    Two things:
Don't most of the people that listen to artists like Santogold and Pharrell's NERD, wear Converses anyway?
And two, I hated Spank Rock's Bump in that salad commercial. The imagery the song created and salad just don't mix.

I understand the use of quirky music in advertising itself, music technology, ect.

I really don't understand the use of music to advertise shoes, alcohol, salad accesories.

It just makes me more and more resentful of marketing. I'll buy something if I WANT to buy something, not because I think I'll start hearing Ratatat if I use Kraft Miracle Whip or whatever.

Oh wait, hold on, I need to buy some Pumas to feel fun..
