This instructional video teaches the proper English pronunciation of "Beijing" based on modern standard Chinese (Mandarin). It also describes the two Chinese characters that make up the name "Beijing," China's capital city and host of the 2008 summer Olympics.

    • Oh, snap! I didn't know I (and the entire NBC broadcast team) have been pronouncing it wrong. Well, thanks for educating me, 2 Chinese Characters. I liked this video. It was like Sesame Street for grown-ups. I really like the two Chinese characters (bei and jing, not the two dude) scooting closer to each other at 1:21.

    • Absolutely brilliant! I can't help but cringe every time I hear those who should know better (i.e. media, etc) pronouncing Beijing incorrectly. I really don't understand it. Sure, ordinary people who don't know any better may mispronounce it & should be politely corrected. However, as abbym0308 put it, the media, community leaders, athletes, educators and the like should know better! Bravo & 谢谢!

    • Please feel free to forward this link to media & public figures who continue to mis-pronounce "Beijing" with a French "je" sound-- especially broadcasters, politicians, community leaders, athletes, entertainers & educators, but ordinary Janes & Joes, too.

    • Ha. This is great. I don't think I've ever heard it pronounced correctly! I wonder how many presenters this Olympics will say it wrong.
