devo64......you bring up an excellent point.....something along the way made Adolf Hitler become what he was....we must stop creating people who are filled with hatred.....aka....terrorists.....somewhere between the cradle and the grave.....something took hold of them and consumed them....we must start to realize this and do something about it.....sometimes just one act of kindness goes a long way......every action creates another reaction....we are making the terrorists of tomorrow.....today.....also...like your Mother told you....be careful who you choose as friends......Golden Ruler.......Richard..........

Proof that even madmen can have the occasional lapse into good taste. Makes me wonder how many folks died in the aquisition of that collection.

Since I moved to Europe, I see much more WWII documentary film about what happened there. There's no editing out the full scope.

Once again, using Hitler's infamy as a means to spread fear and misinformation.
There was more than one art school at the time - there were other paths he could have taken.
To say, "Hitler became a dictator because he wasn't accepted to art school" is foolish.
Can anyone tell me what our fascination with Hitler is? As if the world isn't full of dictator like rulers in the modern day? Is this an attempt to make us forget the present by focusing on the past?
Anyhow, glad to see his art collection up for public scrutiny...it's sure to be a money maker...

I feel sorry for Hittler in a way, he was denied a normal life. And he was made by the Austrain government to believe in WW1 that they and te Germans were superior, all he eally felt he had to live for, then they gave in and went into a great depression as he was in wa hospital.
Defiantely not to say I liked him, but it all just adds up onto what makes a cruel but remianingly deeply missunderstood person, even whilst I realize what had this happen to Hittler and I feel sorry for him, still makes me hate him for what brought him to doall the thing's he had done.

I think Hilter was a visionary man but it just got twisted along the way. Look at all the radically different views that consume people. He took some very bad prejudices too far, but much of what he was trying to do kinda makes sense.
Hilter was just one man. The millions of people that accepted and followed him are what made the Nazi story "evil". Explain that and in trying to do so you'll probably realize things get much more complicated.
Yes, history would have been much different if he had had a better life and been accepted as an artist though. When you're doing what you love and surviving at it there is probably much less of a feeling you need to conquer the world.

You know, ni away I' have to say it was'nt just getting into art school made him do all that. the point is, everything that went wrong made him do the thing's he did once all the depressingthing's for him all added up, the 'Great depression' made it all add up in the most horrific form where he felt determined andso did the public who followed.

If Hitler was a true artist, he would have continued pursuing art even after his denial from art schools.
Artists are never "accepted", or rather, very few are accepted in the traditional sense.
But this does show that art knows no boundaries...even "evil world dictators" like art...

World history may in fact have been much different if Hitler was accepted to an art school. However, I am a little confused with some of the listed responses.
Firstly, I went to the site. I don't read German, but it appears that this is a collection of art which interested him as an art enthusiast - not a collection of work he made.
Secondly, with what I know about Hitler, his hatred most likely would be the same whether he was accepted to art school or not; His experiences and viewpoints were formulated well before his "artistic period", not just after. If he became a professional visual artist, he would still be a hate-filled man - just one who's occupation was a visual artist. But he became a political leader instead, and his art was that of a political artist. In this case, his political views and art included war and genocide, mixed in with film and the literary arts.
In theory, his political artistry was brilliant - he was able to get millions of people see the world as he did then act accordingly. Most (sane) people don't like his viewpoint. However, if someone could take some of his political artistry and apply it to a positive viewpoint and action like cleaning up the environment, feeding the hungry, educating the nation, spreading good will, and building up the economy, the world wold be better for it. From what I have heard on convention coverage this month, this appears to be happening now (current.com and its founder included).

I don't think that he actually painted these. The styles are radically different. But how does it happen that someone with such a gentle taste in art turn out to be ...
HITLER? Seriously.. butterflies? My artwork is more controversial... sigh.
Was this just stuff that was pulled from plundered cities and put into his private collection, or did he have these before?
If it is the spoils of war... what was left and stolen, the viewpoint changes.
Anyone read German...?
