UK hospitals infested with rats, maggots and cockroaches
Figures released by the Conservatives show that 70% of NHS Trusts brought in the pest controllers at least 50 times over a two-year period. Vermin were found in wards, clinics and even operating theatres.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust topped the table, with more than 1,000 incidents, and five other trusts passed the 800 mark. All the respondents to the study had reported some pest problem between 2006 and 2008.
While most infestations involved non-clinical areas, some trusts reported problems nearer to patients. For instance, maggots were found in a patient's slippers and fleas invaded a neonatal unit. Other common problems included bedbugs, fleas and cockroaches.

Oh dear god that is so foul. Every time I hear about the state of the NHS hospitals, I struggle to understand why it's so bad, how it's gotten to be so bad, and why it's taking so long to clean it up!

"maggots were found in a patient's slippers"
I think they should look at this and realise something seriously needs to be done about it.
