LDS. crazy

Yeah, close-knit communities have to beware of bikinis. They pose a real danger, because like a sugar-high from a can of Coca-Cola, once those bikinis are seen, there`s no telling what dangers lurk in Utah...like incest.

Looks like they made the right decision in the end.
-
Legislated modesty.
America is so much like the Islamic fundamentalist they battle and they don't even realize it.
-
Hm... If I went to their community pool wearing a bikini, and they told me about the no-bikini rule, I would get back in my regular clothes, head over to Target and buy myself a cute one-piece. Or just not go at all. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
-
Utah. Life regulated.
-
What's next, Good Samaritan Laws?!
-
Reminds me of Lenny Bruce railing against profanity laws: We shouldn't base our laws on who gets horniest fastest.
-
Are there like NO OTHER pools in the area? This one doesn't even have any grass... or sand. Why would anyone want to lay on a slab of concrete ?
Pffff. LDS. More like LSD.-

As someone who lives in Europe where topless has long been allowed in all public pools and on all beaches, my jaw dropped...

Look at who is running that community. A fundamentalist religious group with an agenda. The mayor's line about judicating for the majority is bullshit. If that happened across this country, segregation would still exist. Blacks wouldnt be allowed to vote, neither would women. This community is another "jones town" minus the cyanide koolaide.

No big deal, no one seems upset about it.
I like to see people who have a slight degree of modesty as a principle.

Here's the thing, look how many kids are at the pool. Like 90%. It's a family environment. It's a family friendly town. I can see why they are trying to protect the kids. What's interesting, is that when this pool opened there was no bikini ban in place, and yet I can't see one bikini being worn. These people are just more modest than most of America. What's wrong with that? And in the end the city council repealed the ban, so they actually sound pretty normal to me. No reason to slam these law abiding American citizens.
-
Ohhhhhh lordy.... Oh dear.
-
If they dont want to see body parts, they should open up a seperate LDS pool and wear pants and potato sack dresses to swim. Organized religion is rediculous.
-
Bikinis are great! I don't understand by they would ban them, modesty was invented for fat people
-
Once again people are quick to slam Muslims for there beliefs and laws but in all actuallity if right wing Christian had there way it would be just the same.

Oddly the people in the story sounded half-way intelligent in making their points. I wanted to crack a lot of stuck up conservative LDS jokes but they seem to temper themselves as far as enforcing their arcane beliefs on others. I think that city council is dancing on the fine line between church and state and any good ACLU member could have a field day with them if they wanted - or in this case a day at the pool.
-
Well ... they're lucky they repealed the ban ... I was about to call up all my fat friends, don a leopard-print thong, hop in a Winnebago & protest on their doorstep until freedom was restored!
You may be able to find 15 hairy overweight old men carrying placards & wearing thongs some corners of the internet but I'd be willing to place money on them not wanting it at their community pool.
You win this time Small Generic Utah township ... this time.

Wow... I wonder if those same people would judge Muslims for wearing burkas. Hmmm.
-
Its the human body, we shouldn't be offended by it. We each have one, we see bodies everyday, why do we treat it as some sort of taboo?
-
So, does that mean the women will get to go topless?
The ban on speedos sounds like a good idea.
