An eight-month-old baby died instantly when hit by a stone on one of France's most popular tourist beaches on the island of Corsica.
The male infant died in front of his parents’ eyes after the stone thrown by two teenagers had hit him.
An eyewitness said, “the stone came flying down from a cliff face and hit the baby full on. It had been thrown by two local boys who then ran away.” A local police spokesman stated: “Emergency services attended extremely quickly but the baby was dead on arrival. The child did not stand a chance
The two teenagers, 13 and 14, were arrested soon after the incident and immediately claimed that the tragedy was a complete accident. According to a police official, they stated that they were just “playing” and it was “pure chance” that the baby was hit.
The parents were described as “inconsolable”.

Are you sure it was France?
I thought only in Iran they do such a thing... -
That's so fucked up.

Damn...how do you handle a situation like this?! I mean you cant just write it off as an accident...imagine telling those parents that their child's death was an accident because the kids that threw the rock were just playing around. But at the same time, kids do stupid shit like this all the time...I was throwing rocks with a friend when I was a kid and broke my grandparents car window. Now of course that is not even vaugley remotely on the same plane as the death of this baby...but Im just saying how do you punish these kids for doing an activity that frankly, many kids do? they obviously need to be punished...but i would hate to be the one to decide what it is.
-
Guilt is the only punishment worthy of this crime. Im not sure how France does things, but community service and probation would be usefull in this circumstance. As a parent I couldnt imagine going through that, and frankly I wouldnt know how to react. I know people whose children have died before them and it scars one for life. I wish the best for all of these people involved.

This is such a tragedy. Though it does also sound like a horrible accident on the part of the teenage boys, who're only kids after all - of course kids who made a very stupid mistake - though how many other kids (and adults..) have lobbed stones off cliffs without thinking about who could be underneath - or those kids who cause accidents by throwing things at cars from road bridges...
-
That's awful.
And I, for one, don't think that all comments need to be productive on the part of the particular article (or Current for that matter). My above comment didn't help, but I felt like voicing my opinion. -
they'll carry that for the rest of their lives.
hopefully their regret will turn into something of goodwill.
I know my own regrets have.-

You couldn't have titled this story any worse.
To say that this baby was "stoned to death" is terribly misleading and you should have your privileges on current revoked until you learn how to headline a story a bit less sensationally.
the end-

I believe young people should catch the same breaks as the criminally insane no matter what they stand accused of.
We could probably all agree that being a teenager is nuts and we are all guilty of things that we would never do later in life.-

Those kids are gonna have to live with the fact that they killed a happy couple's baby for the rest of their lives. I've done some things I'm not proud of, but DAMN.

This is a terrible, terrible accident for all involved, the baby, his parents, as well as the two teenagers and their parents. All will live with grief, I can not even begin to imagine what the parents of the baby are going through, in an instant (right before their eyes) their lives were forever changed. Considering this was ruled an accident, the two teenagers involved will certainly suffer from guilt and grief that will possibly stay with them as well as affect them for the rest of their lives. This is a tragedy, and I pray for everyone affected by this untimely death.

I agree with Holycity2012. Current moderators need to rein this stuff in if they want this site to be taken seriously.

I doubt that they intended to kill a baby, but that doesn't mean they should not be punished to the full extent of local laws. And just because kids throw rocks for fun doesn't make it acceptable. It's a violent, aggressive behavior that is intended to frighten, or hurt people, and damage property. I see it all the time in my neighborhood, it's been done to my dogs on several occasions, and it happened to me once. It's very upsetting.
And these boys weren't 3 or 5, they were old enough to know the consequences of their actions (rock hit person - person get hurt - funny). If we don't expect children (which they really weren't) to respect people and property, how can we expect them to grow up into decent adults?-

This is such a horrible tragedy. I certainly do hope it was an accident because if it where on purpose this would be a most malicious and nefarious crime.
-
thats awful!

What could those kids possibly have been thinking? Throwing rocks at people is wrong. That poor baby and his parents... very sad indeed, my thoughts and prayers...

how tragic. A baby dies, a family must deal with this "accidental" tragedy for the rest of there lives and 2 young boys may be lost in the system depending how it is handled. Many lives changed over an accident.wow.

What happened? Did the little tyke smoke to much pot?
Is that how he got? Stoned, to death? -
GOD PLEASE BLESS THE PARENTS !
-
This is a stupid post! This is obviously a mistake by the Kids, IT'S KIDS!! THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!! Parents are to blame, Parents! Parents!!!
Poor Family for this awful accident! -
Title is quite misleading. A tragedy non-the-less. This was probably truly a mistake. Boys are always throwing rocks and we could only hope they never intended to take the life of a baby. I hope the child's parents can survive this because you either blame yourself, or the other.
-
so when your mums and dads tell you not to throw things...this is why...

what an utter nightmare, so sad. the teens very likely never meant to cause damage or injury to anyone/anything -- much less accidentally kill an infant human; and i can't even begin to imagine what grief these parents must be experiencing. thoughts an prayers go out to everybody involved.

ACCIDENT.
They ran away because they knew they'd get into trouble and they didn't mean to do it. If they had meant to do it they would have laughed when they were looked at....or show no remorse when speaking to the cops. It would have been noted had they gave off that impression.
If someone had hit a golf ball and it had flown and hit a baby in the head would someone honestly think they did that on purpose?
One boy = whole brain.
2 boys = half a brain.
3 boys = no brain at all.
It is how it works. Throwing rocks into the ocean or over a cliff is the fascination of a boy. This time someone was under the landing of one rock and a tragic thing happened and I feel sorry for everyone involved. Everyone lost something in this event...the parents lost a child and the children lost their innocents. -
Accident or not an infant is dead. A family's life is changed forever. It is true that some "kids" do not think about outcome only impulse and desire yet that is not true for all 13 or 14 year olds. Irrespective, most kids know that when you throw a rock you are going to hit something and since they were up and looking down and pitched the rocks close to people I would guess they could easily have surmised that something would happen.
My condolences to the family. Nothing makes up for the loss of a cherished infant or child. It is a heartbreak that destroys. -
This story makes me feel phyiscally sick. I don't think there is any question of intent but what a horrific end to a juvenile prank.

Can you believe that parents would raise their kids to be savages. I do not believe this to an accident, because if your on a cliff or highway bridge throwing rocks chances of them hitting a person below or a car are real great. Think about it now a poor little baby is gone from his parents and they will never get justice because it was an "accident" ya right. I am originally from new bedford massachusetts and i have a friend that was on the rail road track above route 18 (inner city highway) and she was throwing rocks low and behold she hit the windshield of a car. Go figure she told the cops she didnt think it would hit a car, shes dumb good thing she grew the hell up, otherwise i wouldnt speak with her any longer. Love u steph.

Man, I don't know what the punishment for these young delinquents should be, but it seems to be that these teens need some after school activities or play soccer or something. I feel bad for the parents...I can only imagine the pain.
