Obama pledges support for gay families

I certainly hope he delivers on this promise to help gay families.

McCain's response that gay families should not adopt really shows how out of touch he is with American culture. He sounds like a grumpy old man. This can only help Obama.

It's good to see Obama making a stand on something that could potentially alienate some swing voters. He should have substance to back up his promise of hope.

The fact that he's so open to that, even though he isn't gay and has many ripping apart his every opinion, is incredible. That's the kind of leader I want. Hopefully he delivers.

To be honest, montesooma, you are exactly what I hate about living in the US. Besides, 'fat' was a loosely used term for derogatory purposes as well as referring to him being financially fat, living off taxes from those who work hard, whether doctors or Macdonald's burger flippers. I'm also white.

You can hold him to it, but don't hold your breath. Just because the man becomes President doesn't mean he'll be able to wave a magic wand and everything will be as he promised. He's going to face alot of opposition and not everything on his wish list is going to be crossed off. It's unrealistic to think otherwise.

looks like LGBT families will receive Obama's support, as long as they resemble his model of heterosexual families. unlike McCain, he at least acknowledges gays and seems more tolerant overall but, i'm not impressed. Obama will get my vote, however, i'm not yet sure whether i buy into the belief that he's an audaciously hopeful agent of change.

You can't make everyone happy and Obama is trying really hard to do that and he should stop.

However, there are many policticians who are too scared of criticism to even SAY they support LGBT rights.

Because saying it says you are okay with gay people. Which sadly, is a stigma.

So kudos to Senator Obama for even putting himself out there.

But if he DOESN'T stand by this, then... well, he'll just prove himself another political snake.

I think there are more important things.That's all you see is Obama over and over, making meaningless statements we still have three months until election day go on vacation.The news has already made you the winner solve a real problem.

The typically homophobic baby-boomers have become a more marginalized voting populace, so now we can hear politicians openly voice their support for what most post baby-boomers feel is an constitutional no-brainer.

McCain belongs in a museum... not the White House.

This position won't help Obama with the socially conservative voting bloc, but it IS consistent with his previous rhetoric about being our brother's keeper and the need to offer equal opportunity for everyone...

That's because he needs your VOTES, he really doesn't like guys, infect know one likes guys, or being guy....They just deal with it...

Regardless of what becomes of this pledge, it's bold to make it at all.

The statement that gays shouldn't adopt isn't applicable to every gay person. Many gays have children from previous straight relationships and they still face discrimination for being gay. Obama, unlike McCain, seems to understand that he doesn't live in a world were everyone is supposed to think just like him. Whether you like it or not, there are gays that have children and they need to be able to raise their children in peace and with the same rights as other parents. If you're not gay, it's not hurting you for gays to have equal rights.

Wow. I would never have thought that Obama would come out and say something so liberal. Good for him. I truly hope that he can stick to his guns and do what has needed to be done for 8 years. Good luck Obama.
