For thousands of years the "art" of eating food to preserve health and prolong life was practiced in the Orient and in Ancient Greece. The consumption of food evolved beyond just eating for pleasure or survival, it became a treatment for imbalances in the body. The basis for health and happiness is the Chinese aphorism: "You become what you eat". I believe this is true for animals as well as humans.

  • Cooking meeals for your dog while a child is going hungry around the corner is absurd. Dogs will eat their own crap. Give me a break.

  • I cook for my dog..it doesn't change what happens around the corner...it is cheaper for me and healthy for her.it's very easy for me to do..give me a break and stop being so judgmental.

    My dog is my best friend. I love her very much. Do you think people have such limited love in their hearts that they can only love and care for one thing?
    That is very Fox News ish of you..shallow and cartoon-ish view of the world. Simple thinking.

    I fed my last dog Gaines Burgers then Science Diet most of her life and I ended up with a pale stiff and sickly dog with arthritis..

    It costs less for me to feed my dog with healthy food...agitator, I use mostly local chicken..mostly backs and necks and organ meat very cheap..and it takes a few minutes for me to prepare for her. I throw ti out in the yard on a tarp.

    She is much healthier. She doesn't need as much vet care...That expense is very important to cut out..more than the made up cost of feeding her a diet that is not shit like the kibble they are pushing on people to buy.. You then end up spending money on vet care.

    I care greatly about others..children and animals.. and you are way off target with your accusations. You seem angry and mean hearted to me..one of those raging people without Icons.

    I am a Vegan now..or trying to be as much as I can..that puts my caring of what is happening to others way ahead of many people..I eat locally as much as I can..from local farms I don't eat meat or dairy...or am 98% that way so far I would say...striving for perfect but not there yet. I think it is fine for others to eat meat and dairy but they should try to visit or envision what the habitat is like.

    Are you a Vegan? Do you eat locally grown meat and dairy?

    If you are not I would stop arguing about caring about the welfare of others. When you are a Vegan we can have a conversation about how you care enough about the planet and children to get off of meat and dairy and allow our resources to be more evenly applied to growing beneficial protein resources like Quinoa on farm that allow poor families to prosper and thrive..like this one.

    "Other readers", I hope you understand that I don't expect everyone to become a Vegan but am offering this as an alternative and here as an argument to this person who accuses me of not caring about children becasue I care about my dog and feed her a healthy diet.

    We cook for our animals and it does not take time, money or effort away from what we share with the rest of the world.

    agitator. you own a computer. Why don't you sell it and give that money to the child you are thinking of? That way you actually have done something good instead of ripping on thoughtful caring people who include animals as beings we should take care of.

  • Let us ask the poor, but prospering and thriving farmer how much time in his day he has to waste cooking for a dog. Your life is too easy, you have time to spend be concerned abouth things that are of no cosequince. A dog gets old you put it down. A human gets old, you put it down. Life begins and life ends. Stop trying to make something so grand out of it and try wrapping your mind around the fact that you and your dog are just galactic cancer cells.

    You can eat green, drive green, cook gourmet meals for your dog till you blue in the face. It does not change the fact that you are one of 6.5 billion useless souls floating around in the middle of nowhere, trying make meaning of nothing by cooking for a dog and eating like chipmunk. 100 hundred years, hell 5 years if not 5 minutes after your death, no one will care.

    I know, I know, you care. Sorry I got everbodies panties in a bunch, I assume you all wear panties, just thought it was funny that while I was contemplating the meaning a purpose of life, you all were worried about your dogs fiber intake. Just something I have never had the luxury of worrying about.

    Once a neighbor told me the secret to his 18-year old dog. He might have not been able to have any kids I believe, so his dog is his sole companion, which emotionally makes all the difference in the world in some cases. So he said, the secret for my dog to live longer and healthy, is that I dont feed her any dog-food. She eats almost as I would eat. I found it rare, but I guess it makes sense. My neighbor is in his mid 80s.

    I dont have any pets as I dont have the space nor time I would like to provide them with and be fully responsible. Maybe soon :) I love dogs and my local shelter <3
