Apple making people go back to using jewelry and clothes to show off their wealth
The "I am Rich" application was sold as a "work of art with no hidden functions at all".
The sales pitch went on to say: "The red icon on your iPhone or iPod touch always reminds you (and others when you show it to them) that you were able to afford this."
I dont see what the problem is. As one Hollygrove diplomat once said "It aint trickin' if you got it".

It all depends on the person.
I am not rich money-wise, especially being the middle-class in the economy today.
I am a 16 year old who works for what he wants, including my $1300 Macbook.
I understand why someone would want this application, but for me, earning something means that you truly need it, and it is not meant for the purpose of showing off to others.
Then on the other hand, if your parents can throw money at you, one can't have much value for what they have.

Shouldn't be too hard to hack or imitate, making the original meaningless.
I don't see how someone could look in the mirror after paying so much for something like that though.

Just goes to show how bad Apple gouges people for the dumbest things.
Sure they put out a solid laptop, solid desktops, decent software... But a thousand dollars that? Come on Apple, get it together. If someone showed me that I think I'd laugh in their face, right after headbutting them. -

a better idea would have been something like the plastic bracelets that were so popular for causes for a while. You pick a color of a gem and that color goes with a charity- when you buy the 999 dollar gem it automatically donates money to your cause and you can show it off on your phone.
God that took me 60 seconds to come up with and it wouldn't make mac sound so much like it was being run by Paris Hilton.

This app is a reflection of a shift in our society where things aren't important for how they contribute to our lives but what they convey about ourselves to other people.
VH-1 is more dangerous than the Avian flu, Mad Cow disease, and Turf Toe put together.

Hah bummer for the guy who just dropped a grand. So anyone can make applications for apple and charge whatever they want? I wish I knew more about the iPhone, until they get their crap together I'll stick with my envy and not get reemed with that junk.
-
"It aint trickin' if you got it". Too funny!
-
If you want to show you have money then there should be a new case coming out for iPhone. It would allow you to have a Macbook Air hanging from your iPhone
-
I was this close (holding up my thumb and middle finger centimeters apart while simultaneously shaking my other fist at the sky), SO close to buying this for all of my friends! This includes you too, stranger friend.
-
Apple has since removed this app.
But yes, only douchebags would buy it.
-
That application doesn't say "rich", it just says "insecure" if not "insecure and stupid".

aw, i think this is hilarious!
they should bring it back!
-
I voted this down because its title is misleading.
-
What a rip off.
-
Ok and you know some smart kid is going to hack this and get the money transfered to him, like always we will find a way to screw to honest guy over
(dnt like what i sy e-mail me then) -
HA! I dont see how this is any different from having a tiny alligator on your shirt, or particular letters on your purse. If less wealthy people dont have a tangible symbol to let them know what they can't afford, how would anybody know who is better than who? duh.
-
If it is designed to be an application that is supposed to show off how wealthy you are... why the hell do they try to make it look a cheaper $999.99, instead of a wholesome $1000.00?
"Well... I don't know, I would buy it for 900, but 1000 no way."
-
If you're dumb enough to waste that money on something you could very well create yourself, be the idiot who flaunts that ugly gem. Not my money.
-
They should have the "I am Poor" app too. Free (of course) and let's people know you couldn't make rent because you bought an iphone and a 2 year rake over the cellular coals from AT&T.
-
it would be screaming "rob me " .
-
brilliant
-
That title could not be more misleading. The application was put up by an independent developer and was since removed by apple.
-
It's pretty funny that someone would actually buy an IMAGE of a gem that signifies richness. If I were rich I might be a douche enough to actually do that.
-
I would hope that $999 would go toward feeding some hungry child, but hey...expensive and useless images are good too.
