Russia vs. Georgia

The tension between Russia and Georgia has remained even after a ceasefire agreement had been executed. President Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have both been outspoken about their belief that Russia is not in compliance with the agreement. Georgian citizens and others around the world fear that the ceasefire agreement's inability to create peace could be a dangerous sign that the violence may return.

    • The subject should certinally be reported, and perhaps the info gathered here is good for a start, but I think this pod is more superficial than many news reports :(. Also, it seems to use footage of commercial TV stations? Copyright, anyone?

    • South Ossetia and Abkhazia are no different and have the same rights as Kosovo, even though the Kremlins' actions were unnecessary, I feel that Georgia should have never engaged South Ossetia with military action!

Leave Putin alone, question Sarkozy and Bush for not attending to this matter much earlier and avoid this conflict.

    • I find it interesting how Putin doesn't go out of the way to even bother putting on a suit for his press conferences these days. I hope the Russian bear's ego is feeling better now.

    • I am still a unsure about who is legitimate in this war, Georgia or Russia? One thing I am certain of though is that the international community should have put in place treaties so something like this would not of happened. Tensions have been brewing between these two countries for a while now.

The most worrying aspect of this war is that it is now on the European continent, that means there is a war in most continents of the world, Africa, middle east etc.

Could this be the spark that lights the tinder box of the next world war?

One thing I am sure of though, this is history in the making!

    • Bush puppet Saaka is crapping his pants. He thought NATO would declare war on Russia on his behalf, just like other Russia haters before them found out the hard way, their "Western friends" aren't gonna loose nuttin' for em! Georgia is like a small man with a big mouth, who thinks his tuff buddy has his back, goes and punches a big dude he hates in the mouth, only to find out his tough buddy has ditched him!

    • The U.S. is allies with Georgia but Russia was protecting the country of South Ossetian. It would be interesting how this will turn out if the Western countries get involved.

    • This is really unfortunate. They should recognize the independence of South Ossentia. I really think with Russia's involvmentin the battle the situation will get worse. I hope this does not turn into a full out war.

    • Newest update is that Georgian Special Forces are attacking, throwing grenades into basements to kill civillians that are hiding and they are going into apartments and have orders to execute all women and children and are doing so. Several tanks have returned to Tkhinzval and broke through defenses. They probably needed to show that their was some fighting in Tkhinzval. Becasue the Georgians ran away when the Russians started arriving, it looks bad that the whole city was ruined and a body count of over 2000 already and it was all done by the Georgians before the Russians eve arrived!

Oil? Yeah right. US fascists are looking for an excuse to rescind the election process, and embody Bush as a defacto dictator. The 800 FEMA concentration camps for "undesireable" American citizens are being prepared for residents. They claimed Russia started this war and don't let you get real info. Later they will gladly seize total power and claim that it's neccesaary because Russia attacked the US first! Will any of you be able to prove to anyone that matters that it isn't so?!?

The US is in dire need of power change. The US course of action latley is disastrous and endangers not only America's future but the entire world!

Will the elite fit into all those bunkers, while they get rid of the America that the American elite so loathes? Or will those bunkers be the first to blow?

Unlike Russians, the American people would never stand for their government to be manipulated the way Putin has done. I realize Putin is a very popular leader in his country, but even a very popular leader here couldn't get away with it.

    • You all are freaking crazy if you think we can trust Putin. This guy is former KGB. He's got his own oil, he's got his own nukes, and he wants to rule the world. Just look how he's subverted his own government to retain power. Look at the political opponents he's imprisoned. Look at how much his personal wealth has gone up since he took office. He is a Stalinist who want the Soviet states and the world under his control, and he will do whatever it takes to get it done, and the biggest tool in his arsenal right now is oil. He's already said he would stand with Iran against Israel. And now he's making diplomatic relationships with Hugo Chavez. Be for real.

    • shadowfilm, it is about weakening Russia to the point where it can be conquered militarily - Russia has the world's largest natural reserves not only of natural gas and possibly oil, but of all manner of other very desirable and coveted natural resources. It is a long-term policy by the US, which is totally disgusting.

Russia is the least, easiest country to do this "conquer" for Oil. It would be easier to take on Iran and Saudi Arabia than Russia.

This is about ending the era of Pigs and bringing Democracy to the world biggest Imperialist totalitarians.

      We will succeed, You know?

    • If it wasn't about oil then why would the U.S. want to build up arms in Georgia? You can't seriously believe the U.S. would want to engage in a hot war against Russia? The whole world would end! Now that's conspiracy theory. The U.S. clearly just want to protect the pipeline. Which is more of an economic chess game with Russia. Oil is the same motivation that other U.S. wars are waged. It's not rocket science!

    • To better understand what is happening, here is an article from last November. This has nothing to do with oil pipelines, planned or existing, but everything to do with the US' efforts to destroy Russia.

    • This is all about oil. First the U.S. and E.U. look to gain access to the Caspian Sea oil reserves, because lo and behold, look where it is, next to Russia and Iran (and oil is running out elsewhere, and supply is unstable). So they manage to strike a deal with the South Caucases who stand to gain more financially than just letting Russia take it all, and the pipeline is built (the majority of GDP for Azerbaijan comes from oil, which the pipeline runs through). Russia clearly doesn't like this so they send people into Georgia to stir up ethnic strife in order to destabilise the government, instill their own people and control the pipeline. Russia clearly does not care about the validity of breakaway states, as in the case of Chechnya just down the road. (If you look around the globe almost anywhere can be stirred up ethnically - why here?) Georgia turns against the enemies of the state and seek wider NATO protection from Russia. Russia is infuriated by traitors on their doorstep and builds up military presence in the region in preparation for invasion. Dealing with Georgia not only affects the issue of the pipeline, but also sends a clear message for other neighbour states not to mess with them (much like the mafia would do.) The U.S clearly does not care about the position it puts the people of the region in. What Russia and the West clearly only care about is who controls the OIL. That isn't dumbing down, it's wising up to the bigger picture. This isn't a conspiracy and I have no affiliations and take no sides. This is simple geopolitical strategy. My own country is guilty (the U.K.) for allowing it's criminal oil corporations to become the cause of other people's problems yet again. There are no innocents in this game, except for the civilians who get killed in the process, and the planet as whole which suffers from the human carbon addiction. Time to give it up! (Btw that's something we the people can do about it.)

    • Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia have never ever been a part of Georgia and hold no historical, cultural or luinguistical links. Georgia did not exist as a country in the Soviet Union, the inclusion of part of Ossetia and Abkhazia into Georgia (1930's) was for the purpose of more easily distributing central Soviet resources. Georgia was not a country then and Ossetia and Abkhazia never have been and never will be a part of Georgia. Ethnic strife however is a very valuable asset for political manipulations-to the twisted evil US powers that be!

Unfortunately even the most progressive of people are not seeing the forest through the trees. Georgia was converted into an American satellite and instrument for provocation as far back as during Gorbachev's time. Ghamzakurdia, Shevuardnadze and Saakhashvili were all employed and controlled by the "Powers that be" in the US. Georgia offers little interest as a corridor for transporting oil and Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia in no way offer any threat to that transport. You are being dumbed down by stories of oil here. Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia have never ever been a part of Georgia throughout history (Abkhazia was occupied by Georgian Roman Catholic expansionists about a thousand years ago for a short period). Less than 2% of Southern Ossetia is Georgians(moved in by force in the 1920's). Georgia opened fire on the city and leveled it in just days. 1600 bodies so far, but the streets are still littered with bodies because Georgian snipers didn't allow anyone to collect the dead. Was this not a blatant act of ethnic purging?

This is obviously a pre-election manipulation because Saakhashvili does nothing without closely following his orders from US powers that be! Is this a Bush pre-election attempt to get more Republican votes for his heir McCain by provocating Russia to intervene? Or is this an attempt to drive a wedge between an upcoming progressive American president and the progressive Russian President? Obviously it was a crime commited by the US Powers that be! In an attempt to manipulate your brains with manipulated versions of their new synthesized stream of negative events! Welcome to Domestic US Psyops, the US war against it's own people's minds!

Please consider my simple and humble attempt to shed light on this situation:

    • If you keep asking why you end up with this...
      ...see link.

Watch Putin's eyes when he talks - you can see he's lying. And the U.K. is involved, it's mainly BP's pipeline. Yet another crazy war over oil... Time to give up carbon for good.
