The IOC projects censorship on NYC projection video

The International Olympic Committee has filed a copyright infringement claim against a youtube video showing August 7th’s high profile projection action at the Chinese Consulate in NYC.

While the activists projected the Olympic Rings on the Chinese Consulate and other dramatic content, it is in no way an infringement of the IOC’s copyrighted Olympic rings. This claim is dubious at best. The IOC seems to understand copyright as infringing if videos of photos of photos are projected on rough urban services.

    • Since you brought that point up, Huntre. Some in our community have mentioned that protest are boring. This one and the plastic junk boat in the Pacific are pretty innovative. These definately fall into the non boring category.

      I agree, standard "people with signs walking around" aren't doing anything. Nobody wants to do any kind of protest unless they expect overwhelmingly large numbers of people and the possibility of violence with your friendly neighborhood riot cop.
      We need more interesting protests, hack people's everyday routine. Play humorous yet thought-provoking pranks. Expose embarrasing secrets of politicians. Screw with normality.

    • I didn't know that they were copyrighted. I've never noticed the trade mark disclaimer when they are shown. Oh well, learn something new everyday. Shouldn't the IOC have gotten a clue before they decided to hold the Olympics in the "New" China? Shouldn't our government think about this type of action before signing any more trade agreements with China?
