A shift in the American ethnic majority is expected within the next 30 years. Demographers project that white people will no longer make up the majority of the American population by as early as 2040. They speculate this is due to rising birth rates among Hispanics and the aging of the white population.

"The future of America is epitomized by the young people today. They are basically the melting pot we are going to see in the future," says demographer William Frey.
