I've heard that "gifted" kids with academics have very little common sense and social skills...but this is just out of control.

Maybe the pressures of studying at Princeton got too much for him? Or maybe he was there on a summer course and loved it so much that he did not want to fly back to India and preferred to stay in hospital instead? In any case, it is a really strange story ...

Could have been a little prank played on by the rest of the class, or even by the professor. Either way, somebody wasn't using their brain.
