Shona Waugh has been sent to jail for five months for stealing credit cards from neighbours which she did not use to spend on herself, but to buy groceries to feed her 8 children. One of her children is handicapped and another is still a baby.
Elspeth Macdougall, defending, said Waugh had turned to credit card fraud to feed her family.
"She was under significant financial burden at the time and was receiving no financial support from her husband," said Ms Macdougall.
"These frauds were committed to buy groceries for the family."
There is now a risk her children will be taken into care.
