China bans loans to show on Cultural Revolution - The Art Newspaper
Various museums and collections across China have been stopped by the Chinese government's Cultural department from agreeing to loan works produced during the Cultural revolution for an exhibition in New York by the Asia Society.
'“It was the Ministry of Culture that refused. We were only told unofficially by people in government the reason was because this was the year of the Olympics and the Cultural Revolution is a sensitive subject.” said Melissa Chiu, director of the Asia Society Museum and co-curator of the show The Chinese embassy in Washington, DC, and the Chinese consulate in New York did not respond to our requests for comment.'
