The Seattle City Council has voted to start requiring grocery stores to charge a 20 cent "user fee" for every plastic bag. But many people call the council's actions heavy-handed and the food industry is trying to repeal the measure.

    kudos for seattle. this has been implemented in other parts of the world and has proven successful. many of those interviewed were happy to have the prodding to re-use their own bags. i think it will stick as seattle is a proggresive area and the majority of the population will support this initiative. i would like to see this implemented nationwide.
