The summer of 2008's Republican and Democratic Conventions offer an opportunity for Current TV to launch a new brand of political coverage aimed at the 18-30 year old demographic. Political gadflies in lock step with Party foot soldiers will swarm Denver and Minneapolis looking for a refuge to pull together shaky party unities. But will the distractions prove too tempting to conventioneers immersed in the political super bowls of their lives? And will the host cities be as welcoming as each local Party officials hope?
Host, Trace Crutchfield will alternate interviewing politicos and local "insurgents" (extremists who plan to cause disruptions) with a detailed City Guide that explores the fringes of each town --beautiful fashionistas, marginalized characters and locals only joints-- the kinds of people and places Current's audience won't find in a conventional or online guide.
Show 2, "UnConventionally Yours, Minneapolis- St Paul" will take us to north to to the Twin Cities to explore if we are the verge of the last hurrah for the Reagan Revolution? Is the liberal decadence too alluring to a Republican backbone weakened by crisis upon crisis? Remember Larry Craig. Would Jesse Ventura line up against a gay rugby side?

Sort of a fun take on the convention. I totally agree with that pro wrestler they talked to. Our government is acting just as in Goering's quote. We need to call on the government to stop pumping our tax dollars into the private sector to fund military advancements. They are literally stealing our money!
-
Phenomenal. It's like Colbert but with more people. Keep up the great work Trace.
What was the RNC thinking? LMAO
-
I hope you're going to visit Denver too.
I love Jesse Ventura! & I love this quote...
"the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."
--Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg Trials-

I'm really digging this series and the host. There's nothing better than smart ass that does his homework. I've visited the twins cities and it rules! I strongly suggest going to a place called Nye's Polonaise for multiple adult beverages and giant plates of Polish food.
Will there be more on the Imam that was Ali's bodyguard and Jesse Ventura?

Nicely done Trace. I think I'd have put the Hexagon as the number 1 bar in Minneapolis. No cover great live music and cheap drinks are hard to beat. Blessings.
-
Excelent, I love the twin citys.

I wish more of the news was available to view through the point of view of Trace Crutchfield . He makes watching real people and current events the best roadtrip ever .
Bring on more Trace and some more insane reality !

Now that is unconventional convention coverage. NBC put that in your pipe and smoke it!
-
The kind of coverage I like to watch and the kind of approach I like to take to enjoying a city. Museums and historical sites shouldn't be ignored, necessarily, though.
Seriously, though, what is up with the Reagan Youth look? You inhabit it, for sure, but I'd suggest either an update or going back to a classier look.

this is the denver one.

There is actually a big organization of all of the art happening around the RNC called The UnConvention. Too bad this wasn't mentioned in the video, but it's worth checking out!
-
The caption "punkyhontas" next to the woman with the headband is inappropriate, particularly since you are profiling the cities with the largest urban American Indian population in the country.
-
Hooray, my hometown! Nice work showing more of the Twin Cities than people usually see. I can forgive you for the part about herring (which no one under 70 eats). Maybe you should visit the State Fair if you're there while it's still going. Then you'll REALLY think there's no health food in MN, though the Twin Cities has the highest number of natural food stores per capita in the country (or at least it did before North Country closed), as well as numerous farmers' markets.
Jesse Ventura is my hero and the first person I ever voted for. I'm sad he didn't run for senate, but I understand why it wouldn't have suited him. Most Minnesotans I know would have re-elected him in a heartbeat. Thanks for including him on the show.
Also, good job showing the 'dark side' of Minnesota Nice! Garrison Keillor has sold the country on a totally bizarre, fantasy version of Minnesota and it's time someone showed a different side.
My only suggestion is to show more of St. Paul, which is the city actually hosting the RNC. Maybe visit some of the ethnic eateries on University or include Como Park. Not sure what all's on the other side of 280 since most of the action is in Mpls :-P Whatever you do, don't include those stupid Charlie Brown statues. Can you interview Prince? That would be so sweet.

Trace is onto something. More likely he's on something, but I like what he's selling. Unconventially yours is brilliant. Enough of the New York schtick, subtlety works.

I like the series and I have to say you did Minneapolis quite well. Hope you enjoyed the Faggot show (yes that is the name of the band), they're my old neighbors. Good people.

Native Minnesotan here!!!!
Trace's piece was the shiz. He did a pretty good job of capturing some of the Twin City flavor. It's a mystery to me how that Republican governor, Pawlenty, ever got elected in this place. R.T. Rybek, Elison, Jesse Ventura and the late Paul Wellstone fit in a whole lot better.
Comments to Turtle1 and Tasmonia -
Turtle, you're right that the largest urban American Indian population is found in the TC but they're all probably laughing too because none of the hontas girls are from our tribes.
Tasmonia, Prince dipped out of MN and lives in Canada last I heard. He moved his stuff out during the night razed his purple palace in Chanhassen the next morning. His old neighbors apparently had a big shock with their Wheaties that day.
We'll just be Minnesota nice to the Republicans and then leave them to wonder what we said 10 minutes after they're gone. Oh, and last I heard, we can recount our votes if necessary. Can you do that Ohio?
