If something goes wrong with Jupiter's thermonuclear reactions, it may explode – a catastrophic event which would destroy every living organism on Earth.
Mysterious phenomena have been taking place on one of Jupiter's largest moons as well. Europa's ice-heavy poles shifted 90 degrees last May, exchanging places with its equator.
St. Petersburg-based scientist Eduard Drobyshevsky said Jupiter's other giant moon, Callisto, may be a threat to human existence as well. Since Callisto's shell has never exploded like others have in the past, Drobyshevsky believes it may do so soon. Such an explosion would cause massive pieces of ice to fall down to Earth, exterminating all life.
Drobyshevsky warned: "The explosion of its shell will lead to nuclear winters on Earth. It will be a horrible disaster for the biosphere."

If Jupiter doesn't explode and annihilate us, it's massive gravitational pull might cause Mercury to crash in to us instead. Yay Jupiter!

Oh Great...

Every single morning after waking up, I get the joy of news about a new all destroying disease/meteor/planet/science experiment etc.
As if life in itself isn't a blast already. lol

And if we are bad mortals we have to worry about this Jupiter eliminating all life on Earth.

And here we are fretting about global warming..pfff
-
I bet we can destroy it all on our own before any other major event can!
-
On this scale, what will be will be. The consequences for all life in this solar system would be dire.

I would prefer if Jupiter didn't do that.

Maybe we can strike first.

Game over man......game OVER.

I bet he doesn't get invited to dinner parties more than once. He could shake the fun out of a children's party.

This is a matter of national security, Jupiter is a threat to our sovereign nation. we have to go to war with Jupiter arm the damn nukes and raise the terror level. our war on terror is going terrestrial. lets take the fight to Jupiter before it strikes us at home. bomb bomb bomb Jupiter.
-
What they don't tell you is that Jupiter is upset because it's friends with Pluto, who is orbiting all alone out there no longer even recognized as a planet...
Jupiter is just sticking up for it's little friend.
go Jupiter...but please don't kill us.

Jupi-Terror! Time for an inter-galactic Gitmo?

Jupiter may explode and kill us all? Ay yi yi. I mean, I'm freaked about it, but I'm actually more obsessed with questions like "where did I put my keys?" and "will anyone notice this chorizo-stain?" I think this Jupiter thing is a definitive case of a problem too big to worry about.

Ok. The day that Jupiter blows up is the day that I go up the the "end is near" guy and shake his hand. I am pretty sure that WE will destroy ourselves / this planet before that happens, though.

Jupiter isnt going to explode. Is this guy even a real scientist?
-
What I don't get is, if Jupiters moon explodes, the chances of it hitting earth are tiny! think how big jupiter is, it orbits jupiter so the chances of it exploding at the point of orbitation where its inline with the earth is tiny!!!
Just a scare story people.

This is definitely not good news. As some of you may know, Jupiter's weather is largely the result of it having an internal heat source, in addition to the energy absorbed by the Sun; this energy is due to the continual contraction, releasing energy from the days of the accretion disk. These new storms indicate an increased Coriolis Effect, which is probably due to a vast increase in heat emission, in the past three years. This is very serious; and may be very legitimate threat to our existence...
