However, the government passed a law saying that all cabdrivers would have to
learn English before the Olympics, giving them one year to master the language. In this pod, Zack Mexico will ride around to try to find out whether the law really worked.

That was way cool, Zack. How did you learn Chinese?

I thought this video was going to be about their crazy driving skills. I don't see how is this different from a Chinese perosn coming to New York and taking cabs there. As if New York is not notoriously known for rude, non-foreign language speaking, or even smelly cab drivers. Residents and tourists all ride the cab. I was in Beijing for a month and the cabs were crazy cheap, a 1.25 U.S. per mile. Not once did any of my cab drivers smoke. The smoky-ness was probably from the smog, attitude comes with driving a cab, and you can't expect every cab driver in another country to speak your language.

Hey man.
It's different because the government attempted to teach the cabdrivers English and to dress them up in fancy clothes (yellow is the color of the emperor) before the Olympic Games. They also installed translation machines in the cabs without telling the drivers how to use them.
I live in New York and the cab drivers are equally as nuts. If the NYC government decided to teach them all Chinese and made them all wear uniforms....now that would be a story. See what I mean?

Great pod, I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what the name of the song that starts playing at 4:50 is?.
