Cannabis seeds to be made illegal in the UK?

Image...
In its latest series of restrictive moves the UK Government has placed forward a proposition (Bill 316) on the prohibition of Cannabis seeds. The present legality of cannabis seeds in the UK operates against a loop-hole in the law which states that the possession of cannabis seeds in the UK is allowed, while the cultivation of the same seed is a criminal act.

This ambiguous approach to cannabis seed law has always been in place - thus allowing seed retailers to sell seeds in the UK to whom ever they wish.

Homegrown cannabis isn't going away no matter how hard the British government tries to bury it under layer upon layer of red tape and beaurocracy.

Any prohibition of cannabis seeds in the UK will of course have a negative effect.

This is a hugely important issue in the Great British cannabis debate, as well as a pre-cursor to the reclassification of cannabis set to take place early in 2009. We need to stop both taking place. Thanks for your votes as well as your support.

I agree. It is absolutely necessary to bring this issue into open debate between the government and the people of the country.

I agree that the whole cannabis hunt is counter-productive. Weed does no harm :)

What a near-sighted approach many growers already get their seeds on-line anyway, all that banning seeds will do is force the growers to spend British pounds in countries other than the UK.

How can there be a crime without a victim?

Here is the reasoning behind someone putting this bill forward for debate in the house of commons.

Oh for goodness' SAKE. Aren't there more important things for our parliament to be debating, like the low rape conviction rate, child poverty, and, and, stuff?

And the government attempts another misguided, complicated backstep.

I realize that providing medicine to patients is one thing, while running a commercial cannabis seed operation for personal profit without supporting the community that supports you is another, but, what about the individuals providing seeds for medical marijuana? enforcement of prohibition would likely mean that dealers supplying bona fide patients will be incapable of serving those who rely on marijuana's therapeutic benefit.

""...I realize that providing medicine to patients is one thing, while running a commercial cannabis seed operation for personal profit without supporting the community that supports you..""

I completely agree this plays a part in maintaining the illegality of cannabis (and soon to be cannabis seeds if Tom Brake, Liberal Democrat has his way).

The fact is many cannabis websites (or rather their administrators) simply refuse to become involved in the greater cannabis debate.

Its almost as if the illegality of cannabis helps them to earn a living, so rather than rock their (sometimes "lucrative" boats), they prefer to pretend the issue simply doesn't exist.

But the Canna Zine cannabis news website exists to change all that. Join us!

Is Mr Brake going to campaign to ban the remembrance day poppies. If he fears that children seeing a picture of a cannabis leaf in a shop window will lead children astray, then surely he must wish to ban the symbolic opium poppies as they represent a drug which is actually addictive and can kill people, unlike the cannabis plant.

This is being doen by a Libdem MP, who party has a stated position of supporting legalisation, and in the meantime stopping the prosecution of small time growers.

If you write to the MP you'll get a standard letter but we should make a hell of a lot of noise over this, Make it clear to the party nationally and locally that you will never vote for them again if they do this.

    God I hate politicians.

now they want to force even the seed business underground....

sometimes i think this country is really backwards..

lets give them something to think about....

I understand the concerns of the local people wanting to avert their childrens eyes away from such iconography like a cannabis leaf, but surely the way to tackle this issue is to bring in legislation about how this kind of shop is advertised. Like for instance tobbaco products being banned from TV. No-one mentioned banning ciggarettes did they?

the move to ban seeds will be good news for cannabis importers and those who produce clones, bad news for the world that may follow suit and ban the means of feeding, clothing, housing, transporting and healing many millions

I wrote to the Lib Dem leader and he said the party allow their MP's to say what they want

Mr Brake should put a stop to this foolish plan, how can a 165 million users of cannabis like myself be ignored, for revenue?
When we are bordering a large global recession again, surely this is time to make new economic strategy , by introducing the a legal cannabis/hemp trade, which is worth billions.

Tom Brakes bill, taken out for purely personal conbstituency reasons, is unreasonable towards all those who are trying to utilise the most versatile plant on earth.
Tom does not seem to know that some 55.000 products can be made from Hemp, that most are low CO2 processes which do not harm the environment, that his bill will stilfe the advances made already in the food retailing sector and that his petty bill is damaging the Lib. Democrats and their policies as described.
Should this be an exercise in flying an idea, see how it pans out with the public, then this is a poor judgement by the Lib Dems, who thought to let him run with it.

well this pm is stupid im a fisherman and my famly has bin useing hemp seeds to fish with for at least a 100 years if they ban cannabis seeds witch are hemp seeds in there rules then what about the milllions of carp fishers that would bcome criminal just to fish its stupid just like the mp that is trying to push it and it just becouse he is getting stick for it being to close to a schoool he even states some thing about pubs and booze shops dont do that what they do it every where theres a school near me with 2 pubs facing it and a booze shop less than 30 yards away so whats he on about fair to say it should of only bin a bill to make them futher away from schools and that they should also do the same to pubs and boooze shops and just a thought on there as well what about the pet trade they also have hemp seeds in there feeds for certian birds so it will be ilegal for them to feed there birds so if they dont feed them then it will be ilegal becouse they are not feeding there birds this law would contradict the protection of animal laws if its passed so some one should remind the gov of that fact
