    • I will say what I feel and I don't think he did this out of the goodness of his heart.

But those that do think so only because they want Obama to win not because they actually believe it.

The moment people actually have a feeling that isn't a bleeding heart for their own political causes I will start to actually consider them humans.

Anyone in politics, now days, can't be human.

you're being way too cynical. everything is not a stunt. this was for real. the kennedy's are some of the most idealistic and goodhearted politicians in this nation's history. teddy has dedicated every ounce of his being for his entire life into helping his country and putting others ahead of himself.

    • Ted Kennedy went and gave a speech against his doctors orders because he has a great love for this country. People that are undergoing cancer treatment are risking their life to go into that kind of crowd. How dare you criticize him for that.

    • No.

Apparently if Democrats could...they'd raise Abraham Lincoln from the grave (if he sided with them) just so they could win votes.

I wonder how much of him showing up was because he wanted to against because they demanded him to?

This is a political game not a game of hearts and hugs. People are so blinded by the blue and red that it's hilarious ...it even, apparently, extends to Germany.

And what is with the over recommending going on? Apparently as long as you agree with the two that are recommending they'll recommend your comment...how...political.

    • Maybe it is interesting for you to know the latest poll from Germany: if Germans were allowed to vote for the next American President, 75% would vote for Barack Obama...

He's a kind of popstar here in Germany. I won't forget his visit to Berlin just a month ago. More than 200.000 people listened to his speech at the Siegessäule and Barack Obama dominated the headlines in Germany for more than a week. German politicians can only dream about such a popularity.

Have a look at my film "Obamania in Berlin" to get more information about the hype in Germany...

    • I commend Kennedy's coming back from brain surgery to promote his party nominee. I can't believe why someone would mock him for that in this thread. They must have a lot of hate in their heart...

Yes Clay, they left it out. The reason is that he paid and paid and paid. Laura Bush also killed someone in a car accident and it is a horrifying thing to live with.
Chappaquiddick will never be erased from the history books. Just the convention might have been a bit awkward to have it mentioned in the bio film. To err is human, to forgive divine. Private Ibber

Probably because you have no tact, you're hypocritical, and you no repsect for someone who doesn't agree with you hence why you felt the need to mention Kennedy's past transgressions in light of a positive moment.

The man is still recovering from BRAIN SURGERY, but put his party before his own well-being despite it.

If this was Dick Cheney you would have proclaimed him an American hero already.

JJ, if you're going to interject yourself into a debate of semantics with me, then don't assume to put words in my mouth.

That is also NOT the point. Quit trying to derail the conversation from the subject at hand, which is Kennedy's appearance at the DNC despite he is still recovering from brain surgery.

It's an amazing show of willpower and inner strength that should be acknowledged instead of ridiculed. The fact that neither one of you can recognize that and use this thread to spew your bi-partisan distain for the man is clear that you two are both insensitive and agenda-driven, and therefore are contributing aboslutely nothing of merit to the conversation.

And so are the people that are backing him being there. No one cares for his health as much as they care for his backing of their pick for President.

And the fact you don't have a reply about if you wouldstand up for Dick...says enough.

    • clayjj05:

JJ, Kennedy made his own choice to appear there despite his health. His own doctors advised against it but he decided to go anyway. If he didn't feel up to it, he would've stayed home. Instead, he put his party before his own well-being and made an appearance to support what he felt was right. For anyone else to question his decision to appear in his state of health is irrelevant since the choice was competely voluntary.

Stop trying to make this about other people, Cheney included. I used him as an example your of bi-partisan favoritism and now you're attempting to pidgeon-hole me for it. I will not engage into a debate of "what if's" about Dick Cheney willpower and inner strength since you are trying to use it a leverage against me and my position. So, as I said before, stow your assumptions on that situation. Don't try to paint me as disrepectful or insensitive as you or Clay.

Also for the record, I do not have to answer that question as I'm not the one bringing up the past to devalue Dick Cheney's inner strength or willpower. You both remain determined to make this a bi-partisan issue while others(including myself) are trying to highlight the personal courage demonstrated. It is truly showing of how petty and shallow you are being.

JJ, stating what you are actively doing is not putting words in your mouth. However, assuming and stating my opinions because I refuse to answer a question, a question which is only related by a hypothetical similarity, IS putting words in my mouth.

So, do you have a personal grudge against Kennedy and all the rest of the Democratic party, or there an actual and valid reason why you feel that Ted is a "classless and selfish individual"(again, not putting words in your mouth as these are taken from your previous statements on the thread)? I'd like to remind you not to judge him based on his previous transgressions, not only because these have already been addressed but also because you are not jugded here for your previous transgressions- only your current ones.

P.S.- There is a distinct difference between can't(lacking the ability or comprehension) and don't(which is a suggestion or choice). I chose not to answer your question, so get over it. Trying to goad me into it is not going to get answer.

    • clayjj05:

I'm not goading you. I'm making a fact. You can't do it. Whether or not you could you can't prove. And just like an answer is an answer---silence is also an answer. Since you can't state a simple phrase of yes you would stand up for Dick if he were in a similar position means you wouldn't or it means you don't want to be tied down to such a view because if does happen and you go back on it you'd be a liar....too late.

Anyways I have no issue with a Drunk Kennedy. I have issue with people that pretend to be civil during a discussion about what they like while totally blasting the other side when it suits them or they hate the person...ie Bush or whomever....

If you're going to pretend that he deserves special treatment just because you like him....do think again.

sorry for jumping back in and ill make it short. Where was i hypocritical? I have never cheated on my wife, i have never driven a young girl i was planning on sleeping with off a bridge and then let her drown while i ran to my house to fall asleep/ think of something really good to say and not get in trouble for abandoning her when it is possible she could have been saved.

I think even if i was like kennedy and was an alcoholic and a adulterer, i think i would call the police asap. I wouldn't let her sit at the bottom of a creek for 12 hours to drown.

JJ, you ARE trying to goad me, and you are pressing the issue by insinuating that because I refused to answer your question that the answer is a negative when in fact you have already decided my answer regardless of how I respond. Which is why you are desperately trying to get me to answer so you can immediately twist my wording. This is a common conservative arguementative tactic popularized by Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. But that's not going to work here. As I told you several times, I am not going to answer your question because I find it irrelevant.

Also as you say you don't have an issue with him, you call him a drunk. Which to me, seems like you have an issue with him. So why diss Kennedy if you don't want people blasting others for not liking other political figures? That's a bit hypocritical, don't you think?

In addition, I don't recall blasting anyone, including Cheney. But that does not mean I won't call people on their BS like I am doing towards you and Clay.

I am not asking you to give Ted Kennedy special treatment. It would be nice if you could give the man his due for speaking in front of the Conference 2 months after having brain surgery, but I didn't ask for that either. I think he deserves a little respect for his actions and you apparently dissagree. I sincerly hope you don't find yourself in a similar situation and some jerk mocks you or condesends your situation the same way you guys were mocking and condesending to Senator Kennedy.

P.S.- For the record, I don't have any real like or dislike for Kennedy as he is not my state representative. However, I repect what he did today and therefore I am sticking up for him.

You are being hypocritical because you are judging him at this moment in time by his wrongdoings in the past.

Should I judge your all comments by the content of one horrible one, even if you make a valid point in another?

    • I hope he talks Obama out of his health care plan (ie health insurance for all because it is mandatory that you have to buy it) into a single-payer health plan. I was impressed with him physically. Both arms were moving. He looked like he was limping on his (left?) leg.

    • Way to go Teddy. Keep fighting the good fight on all fronts. You have made a positive difference in too many lives to count when you could have been sailing. We need more politicians with your dedication to important causes that would otherwise slip through the cracks. Thanks for so many years of public service.

    • Impressive drive. . . his speech felt like the torch of hope and progress of a nation was handed from one generation to the next. . . Cool to be living it!
