Every year thousands of people descend onto Black Rock to build a city in the desert from scratch. And for many of the artists and engineers, the period of set-up before the gates actually open has become the most important part of this yearly event. We talk to the founder of Burning Man, Larry Harvey, as well as the masterminds behind the art installations Temple, Elevation, Babylon, Mutopia, and of course, the team behind the building of The Man, as they share their views and show us the art that embodies this year's theme: The American Dream.

this is a big money making thing.. if you like Woodstock you will love this festival... but heat 107 ..dust... no luxury... artists building their things ,,, if this is your thing .. go for it,,, and a big money ticket for the festival,,I would prefer to be on the charging ticket side ,,, and watch all the desert rats do their thing,,,Have a good time,,, I will be on a world cruise,,, Ahhhh luxury,,, heh heh heh

now maybe if you had wonderful camps not dust bowls and really good entertainment ,, now that would be worth the expensive ticket,,, but to burn a man ,,,yo ho ho,,, what a waste of trees and time.... my opinion ,,, but alot of people must love it ,,, everyone does their thing,,, and my thing is relaxing in a luxury resort and watching the fools in the dust bpwl with their masks on,,, if you love it... go for it ...variety is the spice of life,,, have fun,,, yo hoho

it looks like an inspirational celebration of self expression, ingenuity, not just for the U.S., but welcomes those of any ethnicity...

It's great that everyone is dropping videos, but it would be cool to make it a little easier to find what you used to call "pods" - i.e. Current.tv staff produced vids like this really sweet one.. http://current.com/items/89236628_burning_man_art_build_08

Am 60 years old, and never knew what this was like. It is so great being able to see this, and knowing what goes on. I plan to be there in person next year.
