Kucinich electrifies convention arena

Image...
Rep. Dennis Kucinich, erstwhile presidential candidate and strident opponent of the Bush administration, gave the most spirited speech of the session Tuesday condemning the war, the economy and the Republicans

Short in stature, the Ohio congressman leaped up onto his tip toes time and again, thrusting his arms out and up, getting the crowd to roar so loudly he had to yell into the microphone to be heard.

It will become known as the “Wake Up, America” speech.

“Fellow Democrats, are you ready for November?” he asked.

“It’s election day 2008 and we Democrats are giving America a wake up call. Wake up, America!”

In 2001, the oil companies and the war contractors seized the country and added four trillion dollars to the national debt.

“Millions of Americans have lost their jobs; trillions of dollars for an unwarranted war paid for with borrowed money; tens of millions of dollars in cash and weapons disappeared into thin air at the cost of the lives of our troops and innocent Iraqis.”

Meanwhile, with the U.S. helping to rebuild infrastructure in Iraq and Afghanistan, “there is no money to rebuild bridges in America.”

Then he launched into a “Wake Up” litany:

“The insurance companies took over health care. Wake up, America!

“The pharmaceutical companies took over drug prices. Wake up, America”

“The speculators took over Wall Street. Wake up, America!”

With each refrain, the delegates grew more frenzied.

“We went into Iraq for oil, and now they want to drill more… into your wallet. Wake up America.

“This administration can tap our phones but they can’t tap our creative spirit. They can open our mail but they can’t open economic opportunities. They can track our every move but they lost track of the economy.

He played on the terror alert level “color chart.”

“Every day we get the color orange while the oil companies, the insurance companies, the speculators, the war contractors get the color green. Wake up, America.

“This is not a call for you to take a new direction from right to left; this is a call for you to go from down to up.

“Up with peace!” Kucinich yelled to approving roars. “Up with prosperity! Up with education! Up with Democrats!

The delegates continued to cheer through the first part of the next speaker’s remarks

In my opinion there are only two presidential nominees this election in both Democratic and Republican parties that actually mean what they say, and don't just spew political rhetoric. Both were systemically shunned by corporate media. Ron Paul is one and Dennis Kucinich is the other.

    Great speech Dennis!

One of the greatest political individual on Earth and he receives very little coverage from the Media. Yes I do admire Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Dennis Kucinich and Al Gore and I wish we had more honesty individuals at the top that truthfully care for the People and the Environment cause everyone needs a behavior change to transform this polluted World of Today in something that it is acceptable for human life.

Kucinich looks like he speaks from the heart not the autocue.
He would make an excellent president.

Kucinich... one of the last american politicians that can talk without insulting my intelligence indeed...

    IN HIS OWN WORDS

    but...

Look where it got him in the democratic candidate race ;)

    Meanwhile...

Here's the TOP 10 list of what you won't hear much of from the front-runners in this presidential primary season. Call them the candidate taboos.

PROUD OF WHAT ONE IGNORES ?
    http://www.nowpublic.com/world/proud-what-one-ignores

Now just for fun, and it is not as if we are not laughing, even when it hurts, but that list of subjects the presidential candidates avoid like the plague is crucial to ignore in the land of the not so brave anymore (since we only attack nations that can’t defend themselves and snuff out mostly women & children) and, of course, home of the free to vote on Diebold machines for one of two parties that stands for 4% of the population that, anyway, marginally needs democracy to rule over the rabble (now that would be all of us who were born with a plastic spoon in our mouth or are not friends with CEOs of military-industrial complex corps that eats up more than half of the nation’s budget while WE THE PEOPLE are being served political & journalistic pablum and pretty much getting laugh at, while our masters go on their merry way to the bank by taking the country to the cleaners.

Is this what our democracy is reduced too ? Make the candidates & media dodge the important questions so we can all concentrate on the horse race ?

Winter soldiers and genocide policies VS. sex & sports!

Is this the only narrative our raising half witted & analphabet citizenry will and actually does understand and can follow ?

At this point & time : it certainly seems so indeed !

Kucinich, Nader & McKinney are right about it all...

Who cares ? Who noticed ? What will this convention circus really change ?

A great speech and a great job of delivery I just wish alot more people would have viewed this speech. It was historic and I hope alot more people will stand up and take notice of the message and the mode of delivery. Isnpiring and electrifing. It is the kind of energy America and its leaders and its people need more of. Agreat example of how it should be.

Dennis has the fire America needs for change! We need to find the fire to change the minds of Americans sitting on the fence. We need to fire up Americans for change! Yes we can!

    WE NEED VOICES OF REASON!
WE NEED TO HOLD MAINSTREAM MEDIA ACCOUNTABLE FOR SPINNING FACT AND DISTORTED FACTS AS EQUAL.
CHALLENGE THE SPIN WITH TRUE FACTS!
SHAME THE TALKING HEADS WHO SPIN AMERICANS INTO DIZZYNESS!

Where are the good speakers? Because apparently they aren't part of this party and not of the Republicans.

I'd like to hear the good speakers....Obama is the only one that actually has talent in this area.

WHAT IS WITH THE PAUSING BETWEEN WORDS? Good lord.

If he has never had an earmark or has had friends that have had earmarks then he has every right to talk about spending...otherwise he (as I think he is) sounds like a hypocrite.

Wow, great speech. The more I hear what Bush has done to this country the more I despair that McCain could win with his negative campaigning. All McCain has to campaign on is attacking Obama. No substance or change from McCain this election cycle.

Ah, yes - the truth. But what happens to truth? Anyone here familiar with Dr. George Lakoff and his theory of "frames?"

"Frames trump facts," Lakoff theorizes. "All of our concepts are organized into conceptual structures called "frames" (which may include images and metaphors) and all words are defined relative to those frames. Conventional frames are pretty much fixed in the neural structures of our brains. In order for a fact to be comprehended, it must fit the relevant frames. If the facts contradict the frames, the frames, being fixed in the brain, will be kept and the facts ignored."

The people of this country have been behaviorally conditioned. They believe what is utter nonsense, and won't hear the truth. It's a research project of mine, begun in 1999 and continuing since 2001 here on the Web. I've been writing about it on my website www.judoknighterrant.com
