The Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) is an intergovernmental body with 56 member States. It is currently chaired by Finland. The OSCE works closely with the UN, NATO and the EU. It is not by any means a pro-Russian organization. In fact quite the opposite. The report is a slap in the face for the US. It also points to massive media disinformation regarding what actually happened.

30/08/2008 17:07 BERLIN, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has accumulated evidence pointing to "numerous wrong decisions" made by Georgian leaders that led to a military crisis with Russia, Der Spiegel said on Saturday.

In a report to be published in its Monday edition, OSCE military observers in the Caucasus described detailed planning by Georgia to move into South Ossetia which contributed to the crisis, the German magazine said.

The report also backed up Russian claims that the Georgian offensive was already in full swing by the time Russian troops and armored vehicles entered the Roksky Tunnel, on the border with Russia and South Ossetia, to protect its peacekeepers and the civilian population.

The OSCE report also contains suspected war crimes committed by Georgians, who ordered attacks on sleeping South Ossetian civilians.

Georgia attacked South Ossetia on August 8 in an attempt to regain control over the separatist republic, which split from Tbilisi in the early 1990s.

Most people living in South Ossetia have Russian citizenship and Moscow subsequently launched an operation to "force Georgia to accept peace." The operation was concluded on August 12.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed decrees Tuesday recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states and called on other countries to follow suit.

Russia has accused Georgia of committing "genocide" by launching the offensive in South Ossetia. Russia is calling for an international war crimes trial for the Georgian leadership, which Moscow says is responsible for massive loss of life in South Ossetia.

    • I have spent a lot of time on google earth and studied this planet pretty well. I also have followed the tracks I have left in my 81 years. Places I once roamed freely in are tabu for now. I took the time to look at many of the places in Siberia and believe me I was surprised that Russia too has a lot of beauty and bounty in their world. I wondwer how many Americans have bothered to look into other civilizations and try to make their own opinions as to whether we are gods gift to the world. Just today I went to Iran and zoomed down on the ancient empire of Petropolis. My God and Bush wants to destroy a people who were a thousand years ahead of the europeans a thousand years before Christ was born. I wonder.... The Jews are intent on destroying the middle east or taking it over..Which? I have thought a lot about this, had it not been for the Jews and Jesus Christ, Mahammed may never created his fantasies in the koran and started the new two thousand year wars, and perhaps the crusades may never have happened which resulted in countless thousands of deaths... I am certain of one thing civilization may be a lot more peaceful if only people could or would learn about this woorld and its people. For instance there are people in parts of Georgia and southern Russia who kill sheep and leave them in a field to rot because they or their ancestors sinned years ago. Thats acowardly approach. The helpless sheep is sacrificed for anothers cowardice. The sinner should sacrifice himself if he believes so strongly is atonement. But no the human condition has not advanced far enough to seperate the good and evil, right and wrong in the human species. Google earth has a wealth of knowledge and its free for those who have a desire to know and who would like to think for him or herself.

    • Why can't we all just get along...? Its 2008... for crying out loud.
Now-a-days, everybody wants to show off their military powers (so Evil), think P.E.A.C.E, people.
In time of peace, those in power (the so called world leaders or leaders of the free world) feel bored so they find a way to instigate problems that wont affect them or their family members. Think of how many inocent people die during war.

Think P.E.A.C.E, people (world wide- i'm tired of this B.Ss').

    • Ive blogged about this numerous times. Georgia started this and Russia responded. Now did Russia hope something would happen? Probably, but that is the nature of war you have to strike when you have the chance. The United States does the same thing. We have invaded two sovereign countries in the past 7 years so we have no moral ground to stand on.

    • The U.S. is a member of this org. and Russia is not.

I realize elections and international politics inevitably evolve into macho pissing contests we seemingly must endure endlessly, but I don't understand why mainstream U.S. media is not touching this. What is happening in Europe?

    • Oh good heavens that simply won't do - you see we've already been instructed that Russia is the bady guy, there is no way that Georgia can be at fault here - we would have to unspeak the unthought!

    • That is what I've read and believe to be the truth. I think this was stirred up by us so we can get another cold war going. Arms races are so very profitable.
