American Express is awarding $2.5mil to 5 winning projects in 5 categories. 1,190 projects have been submitted by AMEX cardholders and nominated by general public to select Top 25 projects in the first round. Based on positive discussions of the projects, numbers of nominations and AMEX Advisory Panel decision Top 25 will be selected and Round 2 voting among AMEX cardholders will then determine 5 winning projects out of remaining 25.
Please help me make a positive impact through the project I submitted, Backyard Tree Nurseries http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/80XKMF - this a micro-enterprise project designed to alleviate environmental crisis (per WorldBank given current deforestation dynamic in Armenia, the country will become a desert by 2012) and economical hardship of rural areas locals fleeing villages to make a living. This program allows people to stay at their homes and use their small parcels of land to grow tree seedlings that are then purchased and transplanted by local workers.
