Although, the industry needs more people, more talent and more legends. Voiceover, announcing and narration opportunites are everywhere. Today's digital technology makes it possible for the voice over artist to essentially be a one-man band. Although voiceovers, announcing and narration are very similar, they are their own uinque niche markets within the broadcast industry with different producers, casting and talent agencies. Voiceover Careers can be found at Radio Connection who partners each student with their own, personal voice professional who shows them the ropes, teaches them how the business really works, and how to make a living at it. http://www.radioconnection.com

This man made movies with that voice. There are plenty of trailers that sucked me in due to his mesmorizing voice.

Whew... okay... yeah, I have to admit, I always got sucked into the trailers (even if the storyline wasn't all that great) because of his voice. I wonder what his mother's face was like the second his voice changed at thirteen? I think I would have instantly sat down and been completely amazed...lol!
My son (at fourteen) sounds like Harry Potter without the accent- mild toned.
Still- Mr. LaFontaine will be sorely missed. I have to go find some of my DVD's with his announcing voice on them now and listen to them...
You know, I bet he read some wickedly awesome stories to his grandkids. Man, that must have been a blast to hear Grimm stories or even Peter Rabbit read by him. Wow! Yah- I'm weird. ;-)
Rest peacefully, Mr. LaFontaine, and Blessings,

It's weird because after so many years of him doing those trailers with no one knowing what he looked like, he'd been on T.V. quite a bit lately doing commercials, interviews, etc...then, he's gone. It's like the world wasn't supposed to know his face.

I don't know if movie trailers will even be the same.
Is their anyone out there who can digitally recreate, Don LaFontaine's voice?
We should elect the best "Don LaFontaine impersonator" to continue the legacy of his voice.
He'll be missed.

God bless him. Still, I hope they find more than one voice next time. I've been pretty sick of hearing this voice everywhere. It's hard to really know if I will like a movie because the voice-over always annoyed me.

As someone who has done voiceovers, I know how much work is involved in getting that perfect "take" to capture the audience's imagination and really sell the product, no matter what it is.
Don was a true master. It's no wonder that he was always in demand.

This is unexpected. I think its somewhat ironic that a lot of standard bearers in entertainment and media died in 2008. Don LaFontaine will be missed more than people realize. His is a voice so synonymous with the movie going experience. I wonder how comedian Pablo Francisco, who made his career impersonating him, took the news.

Now that this legendary voice of Hollywood cinema is gone, they might as well put an end to all movie trailer voiceovers. There's no way he can be replaced.
