The politically confrontational, underground hip-hop duo, Dead Prez makes an appearance at the Republican National Convention to support a cause, not a candidate or a party. Protesting war and poverty, M-1 and Stic.man sit down with the Daily Fix at "The Ripple Effect" event in Minneapolis to discuss issues on social justice. Get their thoughts on what's considered to be "politically cool," why they believe musicians are getting involved in politics, and if they think they're actually influencing the vote. Plus, they tell us what our country needs, and will not have, if not put on the ballot this year.

The Daily Fix is the first music blog on TV airing on Current TV. The 2-minute daily music news show delivers cutting edge music news and insightful opinion in compelling short doses, utilizing MP3's and user-generated video from all over the web. Hosted by Douglas Caballero, the show airs daily at 9:31am, 1:31pm, 5:31pm, 8:31pm, 12:31am, 4:31am Eastern Time and can be found online at current.com/dailyfix.

You gotta respect Dead Prez for showing up to protest both conventions. Here's a video they did with the Outlawz for 1 Nation.

They are the first artists, I think, that have said their concern is not to get people to vote or not vote, and not to promote the democratic or republican party. They are focused on issues and raising awareness on what needs to be of concern to both parties, and to our entire country in general. That's the way it should be, I think. Super cool.

Also, they couldn't have said it better. It is considered to be more "politically cool" to be a liberal. So true.

very rarely see popular musicians doing anything politically or artistically valid, even on current...usually too busy talking shit about ironically bad hipster music.

    dead prez is bout it!)

I don't quite understand the stance. Is it not the goal to support the candidate that would champion social or judicial issues? Perhaps BO doesn't exemplify their brand of justice but I can assure you it's the next best thing as opposed to his opponent.

If there are only two items on the menu, you choose not to eat?

While I agree with the "each one, teach one" message they are trying to put out there. I think they should voice their opinions fully and select/endorse for the greater good. I doubt very much their would squander their vote when the difference is a McCain america.

PS. How is DP even considered "underground" these days?

I found it refreshing that Dead Prez and RATM spoke out against issues, not parties. The TRUTH is the ISSUES matter more than the CANDIDATES. Who you choose should be a choice based on your convictions, based on who you think will work more for what you believe, not at the request of an entertainer. Maybe if people took a cue from them, maybe this whole bipartisan pissing contest could dissolve.

its so refreshing to see this here, biggg ups to dead prez and any other artists apart of this movement. It's not about the parties but the issues of the people and the people are talking so it's time the government took some notes or turn up the volume.
