The UN report on progress towards the millennium development goals says this is threatening targets for drastically reducing world poverty by 2015. The UN report says there has been some improvement but not enough.
World leaders signed up to ambitious goals eight years ago aimed at reducing poverty, hunger and disease by 2015. Now the UN report says wealthy countries are not living up to the commitments they made at the Gleneagles summit in 2005 - and aid needs to be increased by $18bn a year.
A UN official urged the US, Japan and the European Union to give the money they had already pledged.

People should not be starving to death, i saw this article on here not too long ago, saying that it is estimated that half the food in the world is wasted, Im willing to bet a good part of that is here in the u.s.

No one should have to go without the basics (food ,shelter and medical care) the poor countries
and the wealthy countries have needy people. The United States is not a wealthy country but we have greedy
rich people that just don't do enough.Children are hungry all over the world some people put up with it others don't. If your hungry or in need do whatever you have to do and I mean anything to survive.Even if you have to take from the rich and give to the poor! -
hey guys check this out...
it's a simple vocabulary game that donates food to charity.
that pic makes me want to cry.

The people in the poorest countries in the world don't just need clothings nor food from the rich country.
These people needs sustainable development.
It's like Teaching the people to fish than just simply handling them the fish. The only problem is, most of the ponds where the fishes are already sucked up by the countries like US, Japan and some European countries.

The Untied States already pledged the money and then....what?
Did we just shrug our shoulders and said, "Catch us next paycheck!"
Did we say, "Psych!"
Was it all just a PR stunt from the very beginning?
Why arent we paying what we pledged to pay?
As a (allegedly) Christian Nation I'm surprised we didn't take our pledge to the poor seriously.
-
We have people starving here in America. Im gonna try no to sound cold, but until we fix the poverty and disease in our own nation. Giving billions to other nations sounds//// damn im gonna say it retarded.
-
Clinton signed the agreement, Bush-McCain ignored it.
-
I agree with clayjj05. Poverty might not be as prevalent in America as it is in developing countries, but it's a lot bigger of a problem than most people think. It's like with the oxygen masks on a plane: take care of yourself before you help someone else.

If we work together, we can make a difference....

There are some who have wealth and power who have forgotten the true value of a human life. Once that appreciation fades, once that knowledge is forgotten, you are capable of almost anything...but you'll try for everything...
-
Wealthy countries care more about who a person gets married to, or a group of cells dying. The idea of a 'Christian nation' help in a humanitarian way internationally just doesn't make sense! I mean come on! Let's stick to the unimportant issues!

clayjj05, the depth of your detachment is so Republican.
Maybe if YOU hadn't voted for a dishonest President who has so far spent half a TRILLION dollars on an illegal and immoral war launched against a country with no WMD's and no connection to 9-11, we could afford a little humanitarian aid for our poor, our Katrina victims, our homeless and still have a little left over for the child you overlooked in the picture at the beginning of this thread.
In such a short post, you managed to insult the poor, say nothing about the uninsured or the under-insured and also take a swipe at retarded people.
No wonder the rest of the world has so little respect for Bush and the country that elected him.

I don't think any one person's life is worth more or less than any other... but how do you chose to whom resources go? African villages or the food shelf on main street? Does it really matter what lives are being saved? The point is that the US still hasn't helped Katrina victims, what makes anybody think that pledged dollars would make it where they belong.
This world is comprised of greedy fools.
The Hamptons would have been built back up by now.-

Well said, crazy_french and mookster_07. I think most of us "get it", that is unless you are a loyal Bushite or McSameite.
Did you notice how the Republicans cried "FOUL" when McCain was asked how many houses he had?
In 2004, they had Radio Rightyland repeating the number of houses John Kerry had every hour on the hour.
