LHC will not vaporize the universe in 5 days

Image...
In case you're worried that the earth will be destroyed when they switch on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in a few days, you can chillax. You actually have a better chance of spontaneously evaporating while you're having a shave than the likelihood that things will go awry with the LHC. According to a comprehensive report on the project, nature's own cosmic rays produce particle collisions substantially more powerful than the ones to be generated by LHC. We wouldn't exist if they were strong enough to create universe-destroying black holes.

Damn, and I'd just drained my bank account doing last-minute panic spending as well... oh well.

Incidentally, what *are* my chances of 'spontaneously evaporating whilst having a shave'..? Should I be concerned?

According to this article, your chances are 10^-11. And the chances of the LHC decimating the universe are 10^-19.

If you read about people leaving Geneva, Switzerland in a panic or some other such, you can tell the scientific community really understood the effects of a Black Hole even in the nano-nano second life time in which it was supposed to have evaperated. Good way to have the next dooms day weapon and threaten everyone with extinction unless they live peacefully with each other. We are all of the planet Earth, you are citizens of Earth, you will live in our rule or we will turn this big bad boy on and destory the world. . . . . . Sorry, I digress.

I do not think that will work because they try to find first the missing mass or particle. which it related to the dark matter. DM is all over the universe but its diffecult to quanitified. another issue is the dark matter cover the 95% of the stars in the universe. according to the big bang theory we should see more galaxsys than we had now. where are the rest.......
