Though nearly half now feel more excited about hosting the Games since Team GB's performance this summer, 21% think that the Olympics will be good for Britain's international reputation, up from 15% before the Games.
60% also said that the performance of the UK team this year has not made them feel more confident about the Government.

Nothing like the Brits to show they believe in their own country.
To be honest though, if we get all the athletes in the same place, at the same time, and competing in the correct events, then surely that's a success?

A sign of the times.. I think that sums up the general feeling of many aspects of life within the UK at the moment.
It's a sad reality but unfortunately a true one I think.

The only reason why the Brits think it's not going to be a success because they are comparing the Beijing Olympics to an Olympics that haven't even started yet!
The thing is, the British don't have to do the same thing as the Chinese because it doesn't have to impress the world and hide the bad things it has done.
The British Olympics is expected to be different compared to the Chinese because of those reasons. It's sad that us Brits sometimes don't take pride and belief in our country.

I have mixed emotions about the London Olympics .. I'm sure I'll have more to say about the actual games as the plans unfold, but right now I'm mainly glad that Tony Blair won't be around to gloat and harp on smugly about whatever it is he's found to keep him in the headlines this week. That would have been insufferable.

I definitely felt a mini surge of excitement about the Olympics in general after watching some of this year's events in China, but I really don't care where they take place, and I'd still rather see those billions of pounds being spent on health, education, housing, transport and re-balancing the economy in the UK. I also strongly wish that funding hadn't been diverted from the arts into sport (but then I would say that. I sit on my arse a lot reading and writing.)
I don't think it's any wonder people have little faith in the Olympcis running smoothly. The British government has a terrible record of finishing projects late and over budget. Why should 2012 be any different?

what does confidence in your government have to do with the performance of the athletes?

I think as long as Doctor Who is there to protect us from aliens from outerspace, everything will be fine.

Brits just love to down-play everything though!
We all think its cute and adorable to go on about how rubbish we are at most things.
I think we're all looking forward to the games starting but perhaps with a sense of foreboding that our characteristic uselessness will mean the games may not be such a slick affair as in Beijing!

Why not let the Brits look to a future with their pride in the forefront?

No surprise here. The only thing they truly get excited about is alcohol in my experience.
