All numbers are from the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. Obviously, you'll note that filling out your taxes is a lot more complicated than just listing your income, filing status, and number of children -- these are estimates based upon the stated policies of the candidates (Obama and McCain) and average deductions claimed by folks in similar economic conditions.

Note what else the Tax Policy Center website says:
"Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next ten years, according to a newly updated analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center."
Besides, just because a candidate promises a certain tax plan now is no indication that it will continue in the future.
Personally, my Obama cut was less than the rebate checks Bush sends me, (which McCain might continue) so it all evens out.

What is up with all this Obama propaganda?
which I use in the most positive manner possible....
-
ya my so called tax break was like 600 bucks a year. Bush sent me and my famiy a grand.
-
I would gladly forgo any stimulus check or tax cut if they would just roll back Bush' s tax cuts for the top 2% and pay the damned bills. I don't like owing China.

Honestly, these tax cuts are a little much.
With a priority on balancing the budget, everyone should contribute.
Tax hikes on the top, same thing we have had for the rest of us.
Come on, guys, if you are banking less than 100k then you aren't paying that much in the first place.

How great - I'll be able to afford a half a tank of LP gas to keep me warm this winter.

CreditFigaro, Is Exactly Right! So I copied and pasted it for everyone to see.
To JJ: Have you even seen the budget?
here is a great way develop your own informed opinion:
Go check out the US budget.
As you can see, we are running about a $480 BILLION budget deficit.
So, you give me your best proposal on how we are supposed to balance this budget.
"Cut wasteful spending" and "regulate the black hole" Sounds good, and all, but these are concepts that have not been through the rigors of analysis.
If you really think cutting wasteful spending is the answer, you tell me what we cut.
Department of Education? $63 billion
Department of Transportation? $72 billion
Department of Agriculture? $95 billionOh great!
Now we have only a $250 billion dollar budget deficit! In addition, we lose a myriad of important services such as the DMV and affordable college.
Your "principles" are fun to talk about in 2-3 sentence utterances, but they hardly function on a national stage, nor do they fix any of our problems.
Balancing the budget is possible. Really, I want to know how you would do it. I'd be even more impressed if you did it with the added burden of a McCain tax cut.
It would be a good exercise for you, and probably every other voter.

So what happens to that tax cut on 1/1/2011 when Bush's tax cuts expire?
