Very strange trees... it looks as though you could get a towel out and sun bathe on the top of them if you were so inclined.

And why hasn't Star Trek scouted areas like this?
-
Those trees look, in their shape and structure, a lot like candelabra trees which abound in East Africa. Their sap is a deadly poison used on arrow-tips. If fresh sap falls onto one's skin, it burns horribly. However, candelabra trees don't have that grassy foliage.

I'd say that it looks, an awful lot, like a place that was mostly under salt water for a very, very, very long time.

Nature never ceases to amaze me.

I am going to put this on my list of places to see before I die.. I just have to make the list first.. the pictures are unreal! Oh and this would be a great place to film some sort of movie.
-
Amazing! What I find fascinating is the resemblance to mushrooms. I would be very curious to see a study on the fungi and mushroom species on the island!
-
Just going to show that fact is stranger then fiction.
-
very alien looking trees.
-
FASCINATING! That is the most astonishing scenery. Socotra Island is now on my ever-growing list of places I want (need) to visit.
-
That's awesome... it would be a sick movie location!
-
After a little research I found out that those trees are called dragon's blood trees (Dracaena cinnabari). Dragon's blood resin comes from this tree. Very cool.
-
They look like the fossils from the movie Pitch Black. Darkroastedblend has cool stuff.
-
We must all do everything we can to preserve this place so ecosystems like that will remain for us to enjoy...

Life still surprises

Isolated ecosystems such as this have had time to evolve unique species like those amazing trees. I'd love to go there.
-
is it just me or does this look a lot similar to luke skywalkers home Tatooine ?
-

Notice the base or trunks of the trees or larger plants seem to be extra wide. I wonder if thats for storage for long droughts.
