AP Top 25 College Football Scores: East Carolina Bombs WVU
Patrick Pinkney was 22/28 for 236 yards and a touchdown and Jonathan Williams collected 69 yards on the ground and a pair of TDs as the East Carolina Pirates (2-0) shocked the #8 West Virginia Mountaineers (1-1) 24-3 on Saturday.
Williams got the Pirates on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a 5-yard run up the middle for a 7-0 lead and Ben Ryan extended the advantage to 10-0 with a 42-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Mountaineers managed to get a 26-yard field goal from Pat Mcafee but the Pirates answered with a 13-yard TD toss from Pinkney to Alex Taylor just before the close of the first half.
East Carolina shut down the Mountaineers Heisman Trophy candidate Pat White who was held to just 72 yards passing and 97 yards rushing.
The Pirates will play Tulane next week while West Virginia tries to bounce back against Colorado on Sept. 18.
