"Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?"
"In what respect, Charlie?"
"The Bush -- well, what do you interpret it to be?"
"His world view?"
"No, the Bush Doctrine, enunciated in September 2002, before the Iraq war."

Palin is like one of my students, stalling and trying to bs it when asked about something they should know about. The idea of a person this ignorant possibly becoming president is truly frightening. She is stupider than Bush! Say no to more of the dangerous incompetence, stupidity, and corruption of the last eight years!
-
Palin is totally clueless - she belongs in her kitchen, not in the White House.
-
In reality "The Bush doctrine" could mean a lot things. I thought she handled it okay.
Even though the term "the Bush doctrine" has been used with his decision to strike first ask questions later policy. I think Palin was wise to ask..."In what respect?" Gibson talked down to her the whole time. He would have never treated Obama or McCain or Biden in that manner.
Gibson showed no respect for her.

No, the Bush doctrine, for anyone paying attention to the last six years of politics, clearly refers to Bush's policy of "preemptive strikes." Palin is clearly way out of her league, but then again perhaps that is what Republicans want. They seem to like picking incompetents, if Bush is any indication. McCain could have picked any number of qualified Conservative women, but he went with Palin because he wanted to please his religious base. There was next to no vetting of Palin, but do Republicans care? No, because they don't give a shit about the country as long as they retain power. Palin has only gone abroad once in her life, and that was recently. She only got a passport in the last three years, she has never had a real discussion with a world leader, she took six years and five schools to graduate from college, she didn't have an opinion on the surge or on any foreign policy issue as recently as a year ago. She is a joke, clearly unqualified to be President, and a liar (she was against the bridge to nowhere?? a clear lie) and yet the Republicans rally around her. At least publicly. However, behind the scenes, top Republicans like Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan called it honestly when she thought she was off mike. She told the truth--Palin is nowhere near qualified: "The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives."

The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush, created in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan.[1] Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that may or may not have represented a threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq), a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism, and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.[2][3][4] Some of these policies were codified in a National Security Council text entitled the National Security Strategy of the United States published on September 20, 2002.[5]

I believe he did respect her at all times in this interview and it was very clear to me what he meant by "the bush doctrine". He has to be respectful because she only agreed to the interview based on it being 4 parts, so if she got grilled she wouldn't have to come back after that point. Which, i can only imagine, is a strong fear when a weak candidate does an interview.
-
It was what I expected.
Palin has little experience in dealing with the national media such as this. She will get better as the interviews come. The other candidates have had more time to prep than she has. The other three all ran in the primaries.
I have to agree with the comment above that Gibson talked down to her. Very true. Gibson also presented the questions to her like he had no respect for her intelligence. He would not have presented those questions in that manner to any other candidate. It kind of reminded me of a bully school teacher who asks questions to a student in a difficult way. Hoping inside that the student will get the question wrong.
-
Boo hoo! Gibson asked her some tough questions. I am so sick and tired of the whining of the Palin supporters. People who might become President have a holy obligation to be upfront and to answer questions of the press. Gibson was too tough? Damn, I wonder how she would have done with a dozen tougher reporters. When Geraldine Ferraro ran, she had a three hour press conference when ONE controversy came up, and she was smart and tough. Many thought she was underqualified for the job, but Palin makes Ferraro look like a cross between Bill and Hillary Clinton, Bill Richardson, and John McCain in terms of experience and gravitas. Brittany, people EARN respect by being smart and tough, not by blundering their way into the Presidency. That is the problem with many in the US. They think that they have earned respect when they walk in the door. Stop the pathetic whining. The Republicans could have and should have chosen someone who the American people knew, someone with intelligence, experience, thoughtfulness, gravitas. Instead, they chose this American Idol reject! SHAME on the Republicans for the most politically calculating and disgusting VP choice since Dan Quayle (who in comparison to Palin, though, looks like a genius). I never met Dan Quayle, but if I did, I could say to Sarah Palin, "You, ma'am are no Dan Quayle."
-
Somewhere deep in all of us we knew this was what the deal with Palin is. Her strength was never experience its her sex, consevative values, and outside appeal.
-
Gibson had to explain to a candidate for VP what the Bush doctrine was! He did so politely. Did he think at that moment that he was talking to a light-weight clearly out of her depth? Undoubtedly so, but he didn't show it. Anybody paying attention to world affairs and national politics, anybody who knows anything about politics at all, can see that Palin is not qualified. So, what do the Palin people have to do--blame the reporter! I thought the Republicans were all about personal responsibility? So, Palin isn't tough enough or smart enough for Gibson? Watch out world leaders!
-
Eh, I don't even know what the Bush Doctrine is.
-
we are so fucked if she becomes vp.
-
larkjl86, read the previous links and find out. Are you thinking of running for President or VP?
-
I should with my inexperience. I have a good chance.
-
These are the times I really, really miss Tim Russert. I'm curious as to what he would think about Palin, and I would have loved to see her in his hot seat. God I miss him.
-
The best of the best would be to see her interviewed by Chris Matthews. OH MY GOD would that satisfy my little liberal heart.
-
oh come off it, Gibson was totally respectful of her. I have no idea why that's even an issue. Because if it is, I can't imagine how she would react to international leaders some of whom will not be as forgiving. I hope that you are not suggesting that Gibson or any other journalist for that matter play nice because she's a woman or a mother or a hockey mom or a pit bull with lip stick.
She the Vice Presidential Nominee for God's sakes!
There's no need to coddle her. Call it for what it was.
She was blindsided, unprepared and couldn't answer the question, period. No excuses.Like she said, "you can't blink"
Well, she blinked -
She’s good but she’s not that good. Any intelligent person could see this coming. Her first interview and she’s already caught bluffing. Is it just me? I see her lips moving, yet I don’t hear anything. It’s all just, “blah-blah-blah-blah blah-blah-blah.”

I came on the Internet tonight to post a link about Sarah Palin's $150.00 wolf paw bounty, but this takes the prize. I thought the picture in my mind of the poor wolves, being hunted and shot from the air, then having their paw cut off to show the kill, to earn $150.00 tax payer dollars would be the worst imagine in my mind for today. Wrong!
The Pittbull with lipstick, talking about war with Russia, volunteering to send Americans to war with Russia. Talking about World War III as though it's a choice. Anyone with half a brain knows war with Russia is unthinkable. If war with Russia is a possibility, we need dialog, something is going terribly wrong. The thought of another cowboy (pittbull with lipstick) shooting from the hip. Give me someone with brains enough to acknowledge talks should be started immediately.
No one really knows what George W. is doing behind closed doors. His strategery is different from normal Americans. Our President and the Darth Vader may be causing the problem. Remember Iraq? Remember ;Bring em on? Dead or alive? How can they be trusted? Great thing is, George W. will be gone in a few months. American can't replace George W. with Sarah Palin. It's an Assault on Reason!
If Americans stand up, we can get John McCain and Sarah Palin to stand down. Don't do it for me, stand up for our children and grandchildren! Don't vote for more war! Don't vote for friends of the oil companies! Don't vote for candidates that lie! Sarah Palin has lied openly it in plain sight. People have proven the lies about the Bridge to Nowhere. There's footage of her stating something other than what she is saying today. That's not an untruth that's lying to our face. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
-
If we stand up, we can get other Americans to stand up and defeat John McCain and Sarah Palin. If we all stand up, they can't steal a landslide.

She has had nearly two weeks to prepare for a "home game interview in Alaska!"
I would have loved a "60 minutes" approach...
extreme close ups, no backlight, all dark and its and your tight shot all alone...
no beautiful garden and picture windows.
It looked like fluff segment on gardening tips! After this I can truly say the pick of Sarah Palin for VP is...
vanity before intelligence...
attack dog with lipstick before diplomat!Palin- I changed my mind!
Obama/Biden and Ill throw in a Clinton too! -
Vote!
Vote on a paper ballot.
Volunteer at the polls. Watch for cheating.
This is the most important vote of our life.
Might be our last, if we don't make sure it is honest.-

For all the whiney ass Palin apologists complaining about her treatment I have one question for you. Would Palin have crawled or would she have had to have been wheeled out from an interview under the type of bullshit scrutiny Obama handily survived by Bill O' Reilly?
Answer: Neither. The remains of her exploded head would have been scraped off the walls and mailed back to Alaska.
-
This woman blows my mind. And by blow my mind, I mean with a shotgun...
Having McCain/Palin elected would be the equivalent of a nuclear holocaust on the cultural world. A devastating pulverization of my subconcious...
