I'm currently teaching a introduction course on Flash animation at UNC Charlotte. I used this L'Oreal Paris VCAM assignment as our first class project. In addition to this 300x250 Flash Ad the students had to also design a leaderboard ad (728x90) and a tower ad (160x600) to make a cohesive campaign of banner ads.
The Students were tasked to:
- Conduct extensive review of L’Oreal Paris, L’Oreal Paris’ "Can I Help You?" and companies engaged in business similar to L’Oreal Paris. Familiarize yourself with the company, its products, its target market, and most importantly its brand.
- Develop a concept of how to best promote one of the "Can I Help You?" categories utilizing Flash’s animation capabilities. Their concept must show how "Can I Help You?" is the ultimate resource when it comes to cosmetics, hair color, skin care, hair care or "head to toe beauty."
- Design a campaign of three online banner ads in Photoshop based on that concept
Animate your design and concept in Flash. Export the final banner as SWF files based on the Current.com VCAM deliverable requirements.
This was the first project my students have ever created in Flash. They are all eager to learn and improve their design and Flash skills. Please offer any constructive criticism or advice you might have for them!
