There is an invisible man in the 2008 election: the president of the United States.

Republican candidates have all but shunned him, save those who need him to help raise money. And to the extent any president can keep a low profile, George W. Bush is doing it.

Saddled with one of the lowest approval ratings in polling history, the president is still in demand to shake the party money tree, though almost all of that is done out of the public eye.

``Sadly, a highly visible presence by the president will hurt the party and hurt John McCain,'' Bush's former spokesman Ari Fleischer said.

Republican candidates in close races compete for...

This is too bad. I was hoping the Bush/Cheney would campaign for McPalin and that way they would be sure to lose... Our Country can't take four more years like the last eight have been.

Frankly speaking, I get real nervous when GWB goes low profile and wonder what awful thing(s) will befall us as a result.

If Bush continues to hide, he might as well quit. I don't care that he has a couple months to go. The republic party prides itself on having small time values (as oppose to people who live in big cities that don't have values?) Is being a coward one of them? Maybe if he hides, we will forget about what he did? If Bush had any backbone, he should at least apologize to the American people so he become human again. Although many would not forgive, he would look a little less like the clueless, republican robot, moron that he is.

    The "working" vacation continues....

I think his handlers are keeping him occupied with a ball of string at the moment...

    Good luck my fellow citizens.

    Ride on!

I had to laugh when I read this. Were only friends as long as you serve my needs. Yet another reason to avoid the dirty politics of the Republican Party!

This has been the first time I'd really like him to be on tv talking, ruining the chances of his party to win the upcoming election.

McCain didn't utter Bush's name during his Sept. 4 speech accepting the Republican nomination. Pairing the words ``George'' and ``Bush'' is seemingly so politically dangerous that the Arizona senator even referred to the elder Bush only as ``the 41st president.''

hah, that's hilarious that the fear to have George Bush associated with McCains speech at the RNC was so great that he didn't even address his dad. Geez, not only has he tarnished his country, but now even his own father. I bet George Sr regrets pulling all those strings now.

hum, so much anger - understandable. i do feel a bit sorry for bush. though i do not agree with his views, he is still our president.

i was watching headlines cnn and according to glenn beck, when he visited the white house, bush said to him something on the lines of: 'im ready to be hated for the next 50 years.' he did what he thought was best for the country. i respect that.

He is the epitome of a lame duck president.

He deserves a giant inky black mark on the history books. I swear that if the Republicans were any other species in nature they would eat him.

    They might do that anyway.

In the last few photos I've seen of him, he's always been chillin in a polo and some shorts. He's got no real reason to wear the suit anymore, but we'll probably see him play dress up one more time to hand over the presidency. I wonder if he'll get a library, and if he does, will anyone visit?
