Emmanuel Jal is no ordinary hip-hop star. Take a few seconds to listen to his rhymes and they tell an incredible story of hope, of escaping his fate as a child soldier in his home of war-torn Sudan and using music to spread peace. This feature will be about Emmanuel's story and music.

I love that he's spreading the stories of Sudan through hip hop. It's funny yet sad how popular rap songs are mostly about bragging and people buy those songs but they don't want to hear other ways of life like Emmanuel had. Denial is the worst type of music.

Thanks for sharing his story. I'm definitely going to check him out. Him and Afrikan Boy should do a song together if they haven't yet.

Its good to see someone become something so great in life when they come from such horrible beginnings. It makes it better that he's rapping and telling stories about what's going on in Sudan keeping us aware and reminding us about the conflicts going on in his homeland. And the fact that he lived it and that its real makes his rhymes credible. Unlike other rappers today that don't really live the things they rap about. I am now an official Emmanuel Jal fan!!!

With the internet, movies and music we have addressed the horror that people of this earth inflict on each other. When and how will the world act against it. Rather than be a star I would rather stop history from repeating itself. I would like to see Rappers start talking about buying cars, clothes, food and house for those who have none.

His flow is real. The poetic backbone of his lyrics translate nicely to spoken word which allows listeners to focus on the meaning and passion rather than the entertainment value of the beat and melody behind the rap.

His stuff is good. I would be interested to know about any activist work he is involved in other than spreading the message about Sudan through music.

Just went and ordered the cd! Thank you greatly for the link. I Love his story and the message. I though Biggie Smalls was a great come-up story but is trumped thoroughly by Emmanual Jal's.
