Tlazokamati. Beautiful work. If you wouldn't have mentioned that it was your first video I would have never known. Keep it flowing.

    shadi,
i just peeped the pod and really like the subject matter. I do have a couple of thoughts:
    1) I'd like to hear from the elders...their thoughts on how hip hop presents challenges and opps.
    2) I think the pod would be stronger if it opened with traditional dance and song footage that you have
    3) I'd like to hear more about the relationship btw native american identity and chicano identity movements, as they seem to blend in this pod.
    4) Dig in Currents music library and lace your pod with some cuts that will help move it along--you could prolly trim it to 5 minutes w/o losing much.

wurdup, i look forward to seeing more from you. I'm in LA holding it down too so maybe ill see you in the near future.

Amazing...I used to dabble with hip-hop, I have a volume of recordings.. I once produced a song a few years back as a dedication to Native Americans, called ''Red Heart'', I 'm Afro-centric, but I have some Cherokee blood in me from my fathers side. I love Native Indians, Not Native Americans, because Indians were here first. long before this land was appropriated and annexed by those European criminals...We can relate both as African Americans and Native Americans because our ancestors were dis-enfranchised just as violently and mercilessly...Big ups to all the producers of this documentary and to everyone in the video!

Thank you thank you thank you! I'm not north american native, but I kind of feel woven into the community up where I am. This continent would be so much better off if we had lived in harmony with mother earth instead of covering her with concrete and ripping out her roots.

good work, worldbefree pretty much summed up my thoughts. also, maybe some of the artists could comment on some of their rhymes and soul influence behind what was pushing their pens. i appreciate the light you shined on the subject, especially since i knew nothing about it. high-5.

This is very cool to see! I caught another short film once about native hip-hop in Winnipeg (IIRC), but otherwise haven't seen this kinda thing documented a lot..

From the time I was very young, aboriginal art ripped my heart out and laid the throbbing thing before me as though to say "This is what true identity looks like". Since then, traditional aboriginal art and it's relationship to otherwise "modern" aboriginal art has played an important role in my life as a music/art/culture enthusiast of all sorts, and watching this brought me back to that place where I first had my heart torn from my chest and laid before me in a pool of magic, truth, depth... One word: epic.

Awesome story. I feel bad admitting that I knew nothing about this, but I'm psyched that I learned about it. Thanks for sharing.
