Based on your description I was expecting to hear just "how lame and untalented" "hipster rap" is. Thanks for not just writing them off and taking it as an insult. I believe more musicians are feeling more confident than ever to just "do their own thing", and as we see in many other genres, there are artists who are often being displaced by fans of the mega-genres. I think this this scene is more of a movement to break the confines of what we're told certain genres are supposed to be about. I think it's a wonderful day whenever I hear new tracks that aren't all about recreating what's on the top 40. We all know there is enough of that going on.

so, props for being open, and props to all the other musical artist being true to the things they love regardless of whether their fashion or ideas fit into the mold of a musical category.

    peace, love and respect.

Clever stuff -- impressively succinct. I like the cutting, too. Gets my thumb's-up.

I'd appreciate your comments on my latest pod, TEEN SEXUALITY & CONTROVERSY: ALAN BALL ON TOWELHEAD: http://current.com/items/89290467_teen_sexuality_controversy_alan_ball_on_towelh... .

    Thanks!

i like the cool kidz and kidz n the hall. Theyre the new generation of hip hop that appreciates the style of music used in earlier hip hop. The retro look isnt always the easiest look to pull off, but they seem to rock it well. I like their style overall and theyre beats are usually pretty sick too

Hmm. I thought it was called backpack rap - but perhaps I'm just being a hipster.

hipster rap, nu-rave, light and loud, its all good because the people who are making it are making it for themselves
