Transformer malfunction shuts down LHC

"The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week.

"In a statement Thursday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported for the first time that a 30-ton transformer that cools part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up last week.

"The faulty transformer has been replaced and the ring in the 17-mile circular tunnel under the Swiss-French border has been cooled back down to near zero on the Kelvin scale — minus 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit — the most efficient operating temperature, said a statement by CERN, as the organization is known.

"When the transformer malfunctioned, operating temperatures rose from below 2 Kelvin to 4.5 Kelvin — extraordinarily cold by most standards, but warmer than the normal operating temperature."

What is the current black hole threat?

it's just going to cost money and create delays, no worries.

So not only are they making black holes, but they also have Optimus Prime there!? When will the madness end?

  •

    the schematics!

I thought this machines was going to cause uncontrollable chaos. Black Holes and the like. But now it seems that this is just a Hugh waste of money.

  •

We'll have to wait until 12/21/12 for the black holes to really take over...these things take time. Let's all be patient for the end of the world. It will come....rest assured.

This is great experiment to break matter and help breaking secret of GOD of
"HOW TO CONVERT LIGHT INTO MATTER?"

I remain enthusiastic and confident that these experiments will safely turn our current understanding of physics on it's head.

Ok, this is my first attempt for a video response...

But I am very interested in the quantum physics side of what they were trying to discover.
Yeah you actually heard me say "God and big-bang" in the same sentence, idea for that matter. (laughs)

Please avoid my camera shyness. (blushes)
    Thanks for watching.

That's right all of you keep praising that this thing is the greatest gift to the planet while Russia and China look to merge and destroy, . . . but yea woo hoo black holes awesome, why worry about what the world has on it's plate already and can't even fix that or get it right. . .

I don't think there is too much danger. At the very least the black hole will not be able to grow to sizable portions and will only eat a quarter of the world. I am safe. lol. Sorry alright, I will try to be serious. It does look scary, but I honestly think it will improve science, at the very least it can teach us how to safely destroy nukes, or Nuke threats. At the very most only the scientist and those in attendence will be blown up as the atom smasher proceeds to smash every atom including those that make them up. Then some huge rescue mission will proceed, or the area will become a no population zone, for fear that anything near it will also be reduced to nothing. So while scary, and very costly, it could be a turning point in not only physics but possibly medicine. If we can isolate the atoms of a body that are potentially life threatening, image what diseases we can destroy! I have high hopes, I hope they are not misplaced.

Ok after reading some more about this machine it might be able to help something. Whether it helps phisics or cold fussion who knows, but I want put it down. Another thing is it does amaze me that something so big is whats need to control and experiment on something so small.

if it doesnt end up working they could get iceland to buy it for freezing stuff.

I am still enthusiastic to find out what they discover. It will be a boon to many branches of science, at least in my humble opinion.

    This is a dissapointing setback!
