UK Paralympian stripped of medal because "not disabled enough"

Rebecca Chin was stripped of her discus silver medal this week after the International Paralympic Committee decided she was "not disabled enough".

Tim Jones, performance director for the GB squad, decalred Chin had been "hung out to dry" due to the "the failure of the IPC classification system".

Chin, bewildered by the events unfolding around her, put a brave face on the decision. "I'm obviously disappointed with the outcome but I'm proud to have represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games," she said.

This poor girl trained hard and had been reclassified a number of times to put her in the correct group. To then have her medal stripped doesn't feel in the spirit of the games.

That sucks. I understand that there have to be certain guidelines to ensure that only disabled people participate, but why could the committee not make its mind up BEFORE they allowed her to enter the contest?

This seems completely unprofessional, and the Chinese journalists and people of Beijing had the cheek to insult Boris claiming his appearance was an insult (regardless of how i feel about Boris).
The officials need to make clearer guidelines on what they require for someone to be 'disabled enough'. Rediculous.

I really seems rather unfair to strip her of her medal when it was the Paralympics Committee that messed up. At least they could have maybe issued a proper apology for dragging her through all that.

Paralympics discriminating against the abled. What a shame.

This is disgusting. Any decisions like this should have been finalised before the games commenced (they've had years, after all) so that no-one had to face this kind of confusion and disappointment. To be stripped of her medal because of the organisers' error, not hers, is completely unacceptable.
