Australia finds 6 guilty of terrorism

An Australian jury found a Muslim cleric and five of his followers guilty on Monday of planning to stage a "violent jihad" in Melbourne in 2005 to force Australian troops out of Iraq.

But the jury in Australia's biggest terrorism trial acquitted four other Muslim men and could not decide on the fate of two others after deliberating for four weeks, court officials said.

The prosecutor told the Victoria state Supreme Court that the group had planned to attack a grand final football match in Australia's second-largest city, Melbourne, attended by 97,000 fans. The attack did not take place.

    I doubt this is over... I would wager that they are going to move up through the appeal chain until they reach the Supreme Court of Victoria and if/when they fail there will seek relief from the High Court.

    Further, if they want us out of Iraq so bad, they should get the heck out of my county, go home and fight like men. To plan a "violent jihad" with the intent of killing innocent people enjoying a game of footy is just cowardly. It is people like this that sometimes makes me wish we had a death penalty. Lets hope the Crown gets it right and strikes these guys down at every level.

    It's too bad we don't get more details...such as where is the money trail...that would tell us a lot about who is really behind this sort of thing...these six guys didn't plan anything on their own...

    Australia can find out about an impending attack supposed to happen inside their own borders and stop it from happening, but for some reason we can't???

    While I generally believe in the freedom to practice any sort of religion, I'm begining to think that Islam doesn't really fit in the Western culture and thus should be banned altogether. I'm sure there are many peaceful muslims living in the Western society, but if I were them I would convert or become atheist as a protest of the wrongdoings acted by the people of this religion. Let's face it, almost all terrorist acts are being executed by the muslims.......... Any religion that encourages people to kill each other is just pure evil....
