MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon "Nina" has crossed the Bashi-Balintang Channel near the Batanes province and is now over the South China Sea on its way out of the Philippine territory, state weather forecasters on Tuesday morning said.In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said several provinces remain under Storm Signal No. 1 due to rains brought by the exiting typhoon.
These are: Ilocos Norte, Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Western Pangasinan.
Pagasa said that while public storm warning signals elsewhere have been lowered, typhoon "Nina" will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas.
It advised residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes to take all the necessary precautions against possible flash floods and landslides.
In its advisory, Pagasa said typhoon "Nina" was 420 kilometers west-northwest of Laoag City as of 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.
It said "Nina" was moving west-northwest at 22 kph and was expected to be 625 kms west-northwest of Laoag City Tuesday evening.
